1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

It was all wonderful, but probably Inle Lake and seeing the beautiful scenery in Shan state was the highlight. Closely followed by Ayewaddy boat trip from Mandalay to Minggun and back.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Think about whether there are any specific sights you want to see beforehand, as there will have lots of suggestions. The local guides are always happy to adapt the tour to your wishes and to recommend places to eat in the evenings. Give yourself enough time to relax alongside the sightseeing.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, my tours employed local guides and drivers, and enabled me to visit places where local crafts are made and sold. There was opportunity to buy from a range of people. I was able to learn about plants and animals in the various places I visited and to eat locally sourced produce. I'm not 100% sure how best to recycle plastic bottles etc.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was great, and everything worked really smoothly. My guides were lovely and went to a lot of trouble to ensure my holiday was a wonderful experience.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The balloon trip over Bagan was quite simply stunning: the views plus the serene silence as you float over the temples and pagodas. The interaction with the retired elephants at Green Valley Elephant Camp was extraordinary but, at the same time, quite humbling to be so close to these gentle, magnificent animals. Green Valley is not an elephant attraction (no rides or trick displays) but a care home for retired elephants and a centre for us to learn more about them. Helping to bathe an elephant in the river was a never to be forgotten experience.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Myanmar is a wonderful country with many, many treasures and, in our case, 4 domestic flights (some very early departures). The trip, therefore, can be exhausting but extremely rewarding. After reviewing the itinerary, we added an extra night to our holiday to make it less intense so we a ctually had a 10 day trip. It was a good decision as it gave us a bit of relaxation time.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes definitely. All the guides and drivers were local to the areas we were visiting. We were able to explore and buy in the same markets used by local villages. Our guides, on our request, took us to local homes were we purchased directly art and craft work. The fee for visiting Green Valley goes completely towards the care and upkeep of the elephants. We were also asked to plant a sapling each as part of the effort to replenish the forest. All the hotels were also making efforts to reduce the use of plastic.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fantastic, amazing, brilliant, and however many other superlatives you can think of. But also insightful. The flexibility of the local guides on our private tour for two meant that we could change the daily schedule as we wanted. This enabled us to opt to see more of the local way of life rather then just being bussed from one site to the next as with other larger tour groups. Also, we cannot praise the local travel company, too highly. From the initial contact right the way through to the end of the trip. Communication was easy and prompt with the operator being very receptive to the changes we wanted to make to the initial trip proposals and taking on board our requirements for customisation and flexibility. The guides were professional, good English speakers and very knowledgeable. The drivers, too, were also professional and skilled. The office was in frequent contact with both ourselves and the guides to ensure that the trip was meeting our expectations. The schedules of domestic flights in Myanmar can be changed at very short notice but the guides always checked with the airline to ensure our flights were departing as planned. In short, the operator did everything possible to ensure a worry free trip for us which meant we could fully enjoy the many amazing sights and experiences of Myanmar.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Wow! Such a difficult thing to decide! The sunrise hot air ballooning over the pagodas in Bagan was just awe inspiring! Also on my last day my guide and I went to visit one last pagoda and there were thousands of nuns waiting to receive a donation. The sight of all the nuns, aged from very young to very old, sitting or standing quietly was incredible.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Get rest beforehand! I was exhausted at the end of it- nut in a good way! There is lots of travelling- 3 domestic flights and some long days travelling. But it is so worth it.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. the guides and drivers were all local and we visited local restaurants for lunch and other tours. I was given a water bottle at the start of the trip and a bag to add purchases. Some long drives, but that meant we didnt fly which probably helped a bit.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fantastic! Myanmar is my favourite Asian destination- and I've lived in Asia for 10 years!!! The operator was brilliant from the start of my researching holidays- always in communication with me. The drivers and guides were informative and friendly. Just brilliant. Would definitely use them again, when I return to Myanmar

Trekking Inlay Lake in Myanmar. It was like a journey back in time.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Certainly benefited local people through the money we spent there, including directly benefiting families in small and more remote villages.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fabulous! .It was one of the best trips I've taken because of the combination of the depth of knowledge I gained about Myanmar's history and current socio-political context, a range of fun activities, delicious food, and great value for money.
