Reviews for Portuguese Douro wine region walking holiday
Cathy Tailby review 30 Apr 2026
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Walking in the beautiful Douro Valley.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Be prepared that the first walk (Pinhao to Provesende) is quite steep and arduous, and was a bit too much for us. We turned back after a couple of kilometres, and ended up getting a taxi. The Norwegian ladies who were doing the same walk all managed to complete it, but they were part of a regular walking group, and seemed younger and fitter!3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I do think it benefited local people, in that we were giving them business.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
It was excellent. The arrangements all worked as outlined in the schedule supplied to us in advance. The hotels and the B&B at Casa D'Arca were all very good. The 4 course dinners at Morgadio da Calcada were memorable, and the breakfast provided by the kind lady at Casa D'Arca was beyond generous. All the people we met at the various places we stayed were polite and helpful.Holiday Reviews
