1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Bird watching and horse riding; Colonia de Sacramento is beautiful, the old part is very compact so two nights would be enough; Montevideo is a smallish city and the Port Market is worth a visit--the city tour was interesting. Jose Ignacio has a lovely beach and is not as developed as Punte Este.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be careful what rooms you book in some of the historical boutique hotels. For me in two cases I was given a room overlooking or next to a busy noisy road. Better options were available and more care should have been taken by the company especially given that I had raised this issue but was assured it shouldn’t be a problem. Unless you are seriously into wine, one day/night at a vineyard is enough.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes and no. Yes because all hotels were locally owned with one on a ranch style property staffed by volunteers. No because for the bird watching experience two separate cars were used - one for my own 2 hour transfer the other by the guide setting off from the same starting point. He had pointed this out but his observation was rejected. Furthermore it would have provided more opportunities for bird watching en route.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

The people are delightful and in almost every case extremely helpful and friendly. The country is beautiful although without dramatic scenery offered by others. Would I go again, emphatically yes.
