Walking the Lighthouse Loop in Uclulet and seeing a black bear (rather close!).

It seems like a lot of driving, but actually the views make it worth it and you seem some of the most amazing scenery on these drives.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Wildlife viewing

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Reduce days spent at Port Hardy, particularly at the end of the season as very little there to do or see.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

A couple of the trips involved first nation areas and thus presumably payment to them, along with a stay in one hotel. Part of our costs through one of these trips went to counter any carbon footprint.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Wildlife, scenery and ertain accommodation/areas were magnificent. Some aspects - one acommodation and some days proved underwhelmoing compared to the rest of the trip and general cost/standard expected

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The cultural excursions.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

To ask for a breakdown of the price so you can understand what you are paying for and how much- that way you can make a choice on how to save money, what service seem to expensive and what you want to give up. Make sure flight tickets are refundable just in case and ask to stay in hotels less remote from main touristic areas.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not enough.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

In general a beautiful holiday... the small details were not taken care of. Some of the services caused a lot of stress and were not proffesional.

Many thanks for your review. This itinerary includes a stay at Great Bear Lodge which is owned and run by two committed conservationists Tom Rivest and Marg Leehan. Tom and Marg were actively involved in pursuing an end to trophy hunting of grizzly bears in the Great Bear Rainforest and by staying at the lodge you have supported that effort as well as helping to fund on-going research and conservation in the rainforest, which is now focussed on deforestation and the threat from the oil industry. The hosts and all the staff at GBL are committed to ensuring the on-going conservation of not only the bears, but all the other incredible wildlife in the rainforest and we work with them for their unwavering dedication to this.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Difficult to choose 1 part. We enjoyed sea kayaking in Ucluelet, sitting watching the views with our tea picnic on Pyramid island in Jasper. Our black bear watching in Tofino and Whale watching excursion in Victoria were great fun too!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Those keen on whale watching, should book their tour with eagle wing and keep a spare day the next day. As in our tour, we did not see any whales on our scheduled excursion. Eagle wing let us come back the following day for free and we saw 2 hump backs! The Via rail train was 15hours late! We learnt there that it was not unusual.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Well I hope so! At least our activities were all handled by locals. Some of them pledged to give part of their revenue to conservation or community work.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was very good!
