1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The Mekong Delta, the floating market and visiting various workshops on the river. Also, the Junk boat at Han La Bay was a touch of elegant luxury. The temples were exquisite, though most were pretty crowded with tourists. Visiting some of the workshops gave a glimpse into the real Vietnam, but this trip, like most, followed the established tourist trail. The Little Oasis Hotel in Hoi An was something else: comfortable, stylish, sustainable, and oh so beautiful. The humidity - OMG! the humidity!2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Be prepared for a pretty full-on trip, changing hotels every couple of days, a significant amount of travelling, and some early mornings - one very early to catch the flight south. The traffic in the cities is insane, but by the end, I was crossing the roads like a local. If you have any mobility issues, consider whether this trip is for you. I have osteoarthritis in my hip, and I found some of the sites/temples with lots of uneven steps too challenging.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Partly. The majority of hotels we used were multinational chains, so even though they employed locals, the profits went elsewhere. Lots of single-use plastic, e.g. most of the hotels supplied water in plastic bottles, only a couple used glass. Visiting local workshops etc, only benefited if people bought something from them, though I'm sure they received a modest fee from the organisers.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Memorable, exciting, exhausting, eye-opening, and for me, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.Holiday Reviews
