1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Meeting the locals during our stay in the rural area of Butuceni and learning more of the unique culture of the Gagauz people in the autonomous region of Gagauzia. Oustanding too were the mind-boggling underground wine cities we visited. The cellars were so huge we had to ride around in trains!2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Keep an open mind. Moldova can spring surprises on you. Chisinau, for instance, is modern like many other European capitals, but away from it, there are pockets of poverty3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Well, we did have our meals in restaurants run by the locals and there were opportunities to buy honey, cheeses, wines and local products in shops operated in the convent and other places we visited4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Generally, the holiday was okay. It was well paced and covered the main highlughts. It would have better though if Tranistra was included. Also, the meals could have been improved. The lunches included in the itinerary were sub-standard and gave no insight at all into local cuisineHuntly Fotheringham review 16 Jun 2025
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Most memorable: Overnight stay at Butuceni with the lone monk in his austere cave and rustic hotel. Most exciting: Cricova winery but that was not as good as the extension into Transnistria2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Pack light and be prepared for a lot of vegetarian food, although the pork stew is lovely, but don't be put off, it's all good.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Obviously supported the agro pension at Butuceni but the Carpet museum, Art Rustica, and Gagauzian Museum of History and Ethnography deserved our support4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Different with a guide Natalie who was excellent. Great week to explore a little country off the beaten track and learn more of the complex history of the regionStuart Graveston review 9 Oct 2024

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
I thought it was a most enjoyable and interesting trip. Our tour guide, Natalia, was excellent. The City Park Hotel was very well located and fulfilled all my requirements, viz, decent bed, wi-fi and shower. Breakfast was standard hotel buffet style, which was fine. The other accommodation, in Butuceni, was totally charming and it was really good to spend a night in the little village and see a different aspect of Moldavian life and I was very pleased that this was includedin the itinerary. I also very much appreciated the inclusion of lunches of local food in local restaurants. While the food was, understandably, perhaps slightly rustic it was very enjoyable. The exception being the lunch at the Purcari winery, which was quite delicious. All the arrangements such as airport transfers worked fine. My only criticism was that the excellent and substantial three course lunch at Purcari was very filling and none of us was really up to the substantial farewell dinner the same evening. It would have been far better to have the Purcari lunch earlier in the tour.2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
