Travel guides

Colombia
Our guide explores this country where, as the tourist board once claimed, 'the only risk is wanting to stay'.
Solo travel
Responsible Travel was built out of a love of solo travel, and we want to share the joy of it with you.

Holiday information

Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and help with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, travelling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on holiday.
Diet:
We can cater for vegetarians on this holiday. Sadly we cannot offer vegan food.
Rail:
We can help travellers who would like to reach their holiday by rail, and offer a small discount to those who do.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

Casa Legado: They have their own sustainability policies, promoting energy saving actions to employees and guests.
Bio Habitat: Cool light glass, natural ventilation, green roofs, and materials that regulate temperature without excessive energy use.

Most of the food is locally sourced and seasonal. We also review our accommodation partners’ food waste plans and other policies during inspections.

Whenever possible, and weather and time permitting, ground transportation is utilized for travel between nearby locations to minimize reliance on air travel. Only private transportation is used. There are walking activities available every day of the tour. There is also a cycling tour available in Bogotá. For groups, the use of electric vehicles is still challenging; however, for individual travellers we offer this option, particularly in cities such as Bogotá and Medellín.

Customers receive information upon arrival about reducing the carbon impacts of their trip.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Casa Legado: have garden areas.
Tewimake: The hotel incorporates eco?friendly design and sustainable materials, specifically to minimise environmental impact.
Bio Habitat: The hotel has an ecological mindset focused on protecting and enhancing the surrounding nature.

The visit to Katanzama in the Sierra Nevada as well as the Forest of Silence in the Coffee Region, are included in the trip. Through the visit to Katanzama we support the reforestation projects in the Sierra Nevada. This project is run by the local indigenous community.

We have very good local guides with a wide knowledge in different topics, birds, nature, frogs, some of them are biologist or zoologist, with good experience. Customers receive information upon arrival about reducing impact on nature and local culture.

We are currently working on this initiative. We aim to support a conservation project and are in active discussions with two different NGOs.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Casa Legado: Locally owned
Tewimake: Locally owned
Bastion: Part of the GHL hotel group
Bio Habitat: Locally owned

We employ local guides in every destination, visit different projects like Breaking Borders in the Egipto neighbourhood in Bogotá as well as the communities in the Sierra Nevada, Ciénaga and la Boquilla to create income and job opportunities.

We visit several vulnerable communities, including the Egipto neighbourhood; Katanzama, an Indigenous community; La Boquilla, a low?income neighbourhood in Cartagena; and Ciénaga, a small town facing significant socioeconomic challenges.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

We can adapt the trip for people with mobility, and vision or hearing issues.

Ninety percent of their staff are members of the local communities, with the remaining team coming from neighbouring countries.
