Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Tour skating is sports, which uses your own muscles as a motor. Our other alternatives for moving around are physical as well: kick-sledging, skiing or snowshoeing. Instead of snowmobiling, our guests will take a safari by electric snowscooters on lake ice. As the winters are shorter and shorter, also the time for tour skating on natural ice is very limited. Typically tour skating is possible latest from the end of January to the beginning of March.

Trains are used as transportation from Helsinki to the lake district in order to keep the carbon footprint as low as possible.

Tour operator as well as our partners in Puumala all have Sustainable Travel Finland certificate, which also requires another certification suitable for the service provider. Skafuuri Oy has a Biosphere certificate.

People

Lake district is located far out from the big industrial cities. Traditionally the local population has got their living from farming, fishing and forestry. Tourism creates working places especially during the high season in summer. This product is created in co-operation with the local entrepreneurs to attract visitors also in winter season. This product offers a great alternative for avoiding over-touristic locations in Lapland.

All service prividers are privately owned, local companies.

We are happy to introduce this unique way of enjoying sunny and crispy winter days in the lake district of Finland and try activities activities you might not even have heard about before. Our company is located in Helsinki and happy to add in the package also a stop-over in the white capital of the north.
