Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

This tour of South Korea makes comprehensive use of public transport between destinations, with only two flights as a ferry is not possible between destinations. We provide all travellers with directions, guides and a pre-loaded, re-loadable T-Money card which can be used on all public transport in South Korea, including rail, subway, bus, airport coaches and even some cable cars!

Where possible, accommodation has been selected for its proximity to rail and public transport hubs meaning none are more than 10 minutes walk to a suitable public transport hub or stops.

Recent regulation in South Korea prohibits accommodation with more than 50 bedrooms from providing complimentary single-use toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shampoo, and conditioner for free. As a result, most provide refillable dispensers and many smaller establishments have followed this regulation voluntarily and most are now also using refillable dispensers, thus removing unnecessary plastic from the environment.

Within this tour, we have offered some shared tours as well as private itineraries for logistical reasons as a family tour. Shared itineraries include a tour of Seoul & a street food tour, which makes use of a coach / minibus and or includes a reasonable amount of walking between points of interest, thus removing vehicles from the road more. As the accommodation in most places is selected for its central locations, we anticipate clients walking to most places rather than getting any form of transport, although Public Transport is extremely easy to navigate in South Korea if they wish to do so using the included T Money Card.

In Jeju, again for logistical reasons we have included 2 days of car hire, given the family target market.

LOCAL ECONOMY

All accommodation in this itinerary trip is Korean owned and operated, providing employment to locals and keeping income in the local economy.

The owners of the accommodation in Gyeongju live on site and the property is family owned and run.

Similarly the hotel in Jeju as well as being Korean owned, provides welcome employment for locals on a relatively small island which also benefits the local economy.

Local guides are employed and there are numerous markets in Seoul within walking distance to visit, as well as the markets at Insadong and Cheonggyeong visited as part of the shared tour.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
Our DMC is female owned and operated and has recently employed 5 more people, 4 of whom are female, to help with demand for South Korea.
We believe strongly in this ethos. Sustainability is also something our partners take seriously, particularly local ownership, supporting local businesses and communities, reducing unnecessary waste, and making sure that the money generated by tourism stays within the local economy wherever possible.

South Korea is a tolerant country which believes in equality and its constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, religion, and social status. This includes LGBTQ rights and the legal right to self-determine your sex.
