Jordan is one of the driest countries in the world, so water has always been a precious commodity. We provide training to trip leaders on water consumption best practices and how to encourage their travellers to follow these principles too. We continue to work with local suppliers on water management initiatives. For example, encouraging hotel owners to provide water refill stations, and in-room signage requesting short showers, repeated towel use and turning taps off.

Where possible we choose to travel by land rather than air. By minimizing the use of flights on our trips, we are making journeys more stimulating and more sustainable for travellers. This trip includes transfers in e-vehicles on arrival in Jordan. This trip does not include any flights, providing all transport by road. We ensure our vehicles are well maintained and fuel-efficient. We use vehicles that are an appropriate size to suit the group size. For example, we wouldn’t use a 16-seater van if we only had five people travelling with us. We plan our routes of travel so that we spend as little time as possible travelling.

People

We go direct to the source for many of the inclusions on our trips. This ensures that income from tourism is directly benefitting local communities everywhere we go. We also seek out and support businesses owned by women. Tourism can empower women in many ways, but particularly through the creation of jobs and income generating opportunities in small and larger-scale tourism and hospitality-related enterprises. All aspects of this trip (on the ground) are operated by Jordanians. This includes our leaders, vehicle drivers, local site guides, and accommodation staff. This trip includes a welcome dinner in a locally-owned restaurant in Amman, a stay in a Bedouin desert camp that is staffed with local people, and a cooking class at an all-female family-owned school.

Our trips maximize the opportunity for travellers to engage meaningfully with local culture and communities. Many experiences on our trips also support traditional cultural practices – whether artisanal, culinary or otherwise. In turn, this helps to sustain and preserve these traditional practices so that future generations may continue to learn, enjoy and benefit from them. This trip includes a cooking class at Beit Sitti in Amman, a cooking school owned and operated by three sisters. They set up the school in their grandmother’s house and teach her tried and tested Jordanian specialty dishes, keeping her legacy of warmth and hospitality alive.
