Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

You’ll stay at Anjajavy Lodge, an incredible property built in harmony with the surrounding private reserve and the traditional Sakalava villages. Guests can visit various community and environmental conservation projects, including the Giant tortoises, who were introduced to the Anjajavy Reserve by the lodge in 2018, after 750 years of extinction. The tortoises are currently held in semi-captive conditions under scientific supervision before their reintroduction is successfully completed.
You'll visit natural reserves on this Luxury Madagascar Tour, and in our detailed pre-departure travel pack we have included a note to remind you not leave any litter in the reserves – everything you carry in, you must carry out. Aside from the environmental damage, litter can be harmful to the wildlife.
By visiting these sites (all entrance fees are included in your luxury tour), you are supporting the preservation and conservation of these areas, and indicating to authorities that tourists are interested in protecting Madagascar's incredible natural environments.
The Impacts of this Trip
During your time in Madagascar, we encourage you to support the local economy by buying authentic handmade products such as embroidery and jewellery at markets, villages and small-scale souvenir shops, rather than hotel tourist shops or on organised shopping trips. When you buy products at markets, villages and small-scale souvenir shops you are helping to support a fragile economy and supporting local artisans helps keep traditional crafts alive.
We also select accommodations which have their own community projects or initiatives, such as Tsara Komba Lodge, which organises trips to the village of Ampangorina, where women make embroidered tablecloths and men create intricate wood carvings
Anjajavy Lodge organises trips to the fishing village of Anjajavy to meet the locals and browse the Sunday morning markets. You can also visit the village of Ambodro Ampasy, where you’ll find a crafts shop to contribute to the development of the village by buying their handmade Madagsacan crafts. There’s also a dispensary and primary school which were started by Ecole du Monde, a French non-governmental organisation, created in 1997 for the development of the region around Mahajanga in northwestern Madagascar.
