Description of Turkey activity holiday

From turtle beaches to turquoise waters, live it up on the Turkish Riviera with this small group family activity holiday – good value and great fun.

From visiting ancient ruins to canoeing, this trip is activity-packed. You can expect a moderate pace each day as you hop from adventure to adventure but there’s time to relax too – accommodation for most of the trip has a pool for cooling off after a day of fun. You’ll also spend one special night in a tree house with an optional zipline to try (small fee applies).

Activity highlights on this trip include exploring the Saklikent Gorge, where you can go river tubing and walking in the vast canyon. Families will love the opportunity to visit the turtle conservation centre at Iztuzu Beach and visiting the Sultaniye springs – where you can all bathe in the mud baths and hot sulphur water.

Food is another highlight here: enjoy traditional Turkish breakfasts, a barbecue on board a boat, and traditional lunch with a local family in a mountain village. There’s a plethora of fresh vegetables, breads and cheeses to enjoy – the perfect fuel for each activity-filled day.

This small group holiday makes a great trip for families with children aged seven and up.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Carbon Reduction

We have redesigned this tour to keep the driving to a minimum, not only for the benefit of families who travel (we know that kids don't like long bus journeys) but it also helps reduce our carbon footprint. We have also selected some very special properties, on day 3 we stay in tree houses and on day 4 we are in a village house; both of which offer a great experience and use far less electricity than a traditional hotel.
All the hotels have solar panels to provide hot showers, reducing fosil fuel use. The activities are also low carbon, with some walks, canoeing and river tubing all having a low impact. Included meals are primarily vegetarian to reduce the environmental cost of food.
As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.

Environment and Wildlife

In the Dalyan delta, we only use boats that are fitted with propellor guards, to keep the turtles safe from harm.
We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.

People

Local Economy

The village houses that we stay some nights at on this trip are a fantastic way to really experience some beautiful locations, to try amazing freshly produced and traditional food and to meet the local families that live in this region. We visit small tea houses to enjoy an apple or mint tea amongst the chatter of the locals and the tour leader encourages the group the eat in Turkish restaurants to savour locally sourced food and recipes. All the accommodation on this trip is locally owned, there are no big chains used anywhere.
We encourage the giving of fair tips to tour leaders and other support staff, which helps income from tourism get directly into the hands of the workers. All income is fully declared and taxed, with no cash payments, helping to pay for local state services.
We also use local boat providers to access ancient city of Caunos, this provides direct employment to these small businesses and ensures that money stays within the communities that we visit, and we canoe to Patara Beach again supporting local businesses.
Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.

Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity

95% of the staff on the tour and local office are local people, paid very significantly more than the local minimum wage. 70% of our office staff are female. Our local office is LGBTQ+ friendly, and a non discriminative employer.
We believe that diversity is to be celebrated and as a Certified B Corp we're committed to championing equity and inclusion throughout our entire supply chain. We believe that an inclusive approach is essential, and that the best results occur when contributors have different opinions, experiences and backgrounds to bring to the table.
