Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We are passionate about leaving the mountains as we find them - we feel lucky to be in a position to benefit from the beauty and wilderness of these trails, and we recognise the need to leave them in a pristine state. As such we operate a strict no litter policy, taking all refuse to either be recycled or properly disposed. We ensure our clients understand how to responsibly manage any toileting in the wild.

This means that we do not leave any foreign materials or waste in these environments from our camps, nor do we take any objects from the environment nor disturb its equilibrium by our presence or actions. We also do not approach wild animals that we see in abundance on this trip as they may then be forced to fight or flee, which can cause them or you injury.

We are very proud to be working with Pure Hydration, specialists in personal and expedition water purification, instantly, and on-demand. We recognise that the ability to produce safe drinking water from sources off the beaten track, of sometimes dubious quality, offers incredible benefits to our adventure travellers and so are excited to be subsidising this product to make it more accessible to you. Having a re-usable filtration bottle avoids single use plastic, with each bottle purifying 350L of water.

People

Our itineraries in Georgia and Armenia have been designed in as socially a responsible and regenerative way as possible. We work with partners committed to spreading the wealth tourism generates as widely as possible, and only use local guides to run our tours, as well as local tour operators and transport providers.

Built into the itineraries are meals hosted by local families benefitting both them and their communities from whom they source their produce. Where possible we commit to staying in independent hostel or guesthouses owned by locals.

On this itinerary we are also visiting the Christmas markets in Tiblisi which feature locally-sourced handicrafts for sale, again a source of revenue for the local people who make them. the itinerary also includes visiting a winery to again purchase locally produced wines which benefit the entire supply chain all the way back to the vineyards in the countryside of Georgia. There is the optional activity of attending an Orthodox Christian service in a church alongside the local community - showing respect to the traditions of the community and affording the opportunity to really spend some time with them.
