Cross country skiing doesn't use any mechanical lifts and use of snowmakers is very limited so the carbon footprint and water usage requirements are minimal compared to downhill skiing.

We chose an area with a large choice of cross country ski domaines accessible so we can choose to go where the best snow is rather than trying to create an artificial option for our convenience.

We offer a 3% discount to anyone travelling to the destination by train instead of plane to encourage sustainable travel and reduce the carbon footprint of travellers on this trip and also include a tree planted in a re-wilding scheme with our partners Mossy Earth for every booking.

All of our suppliers complete a sustainability questionnaire to help them in their journey towards sustainability awareness and evolve their day to day practices accordingly.

Our guides are also sensitive to the local environment and passionate about the local culture and and food and we make sure that this passion is shared with carefully chosen suggestions for restaurants and other visits and in the general dialogue our instructors have with our clients.

People

Our mission as a company is to reduce dependence on the traditional downhill skiing industry in the French Alps . With cross country skiing, which happens lower down in the valleys away from the main resorts , we are providing clients and thus creating employment in local accommodations away from the main ski resorts who may otherwise struggle. This trip also provides an alternative source of work for guides and instructors outside of downhill skiing. This is very important for a sustainable Alpine economy.

We pay all our suppliers the going rate so there is no exploitation and we only use local guides and accommodation suppliers, avoiding large chains wherever possible, so making sure your money goes straight back into the local community. We comply with French employment rules and regulations to make sure everyone is above board and declared.

We recommend local restaurants and visits to local shops during the stay to encourage our clients to participate in the community.
