Description of Luxury Masai Mara Safari & Zanzibar Honeymoon

If you are looking to relax, kick back and recover from the stresses of wedding planning then this Masai Mara and Zanzibar honeymoon is for you. Featuring cocktails by the pool, elephants by the waterhole, sunsets at the beach: sit back and watch as this trip gives you an audience with some of the greatest natural spectacles on earth, plus time to chill out afterwards.

After a couple of days in Nairobi, you’ll fly to the Masai Mara, to a luxurious tented camp that has its own pool. Here you can enjoy twice daily game drives – it’s possible to see the Great Migration here – and enjoy bush walks and even hot air balloon flights. You might wake up, open your tent door and see a warthog family outside.

Three days later you take a scenic flight from the Masai Mara to Nairobi, and from here fly on to Zanzibar. You’ll be driven to its east coast, to a luxurious resort. Expect a hotel on a fantastic stretch of beach that even has its own PADI dive centre. You have seven nights here: meaning you can get a diving qualification, see lots of the island, or just chill out – the perfect start to your new life together.

Masai Mara
The Masai Mara is a little African reserve with a big name. This patch of savannah hosts an incredible wildlife spectacle.
Zanzibar
Its powdery white sand and turquoise ocean are famous, but Zanzibar has more to offer than just a beach break.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Seeing so much wildlife at close quarters.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Try and stay 3 or 4 nights at a lodge/hotel - gives you time to settle and get to know a place and the staff for a while rather than being constantly on the move.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We were given insulated water bottles on arrival (we also had our own) which was a nice touch. All lodges/hotel employed local Masai as security. We visited a local beach restaurant in Zanzibar rather than eating at the hotel one evening - only people there but had a delicious meal and a great experience.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Wonderful.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We want our customers to enjoy an experience led holiday within a natural environment. To do this we use partners and suppliers who are guardians of their surroundings. This means that they look after the local environment they are responsible for, as well as encouraging employment, and revenue generation, for the local population.

While in Nairobi, trips to the Giraffe Centre and Elephant Sanctuary directly contribute to the protection of the endangered Rothschild's Giraffe and to the rehabilitation of orphaned elephants from across Kenya.

In the Mara, Kichwa Tembo uses a solar heating system and through bottling their own water they save over 56,000 plastic bottles annually. They are also planting over 20,000 trees in the local Masai Mara community to restore depleted forest sections. All food here is locally sourced reducing food miles and ensuring it is organic.

In Zanzibar, White Sands Villas supports trips to local conservation areas to ensure the protection of the marine systems as well as local biodiversity such as red colobus monkeys. Food is all locally sourced with the fish coming direct from the ocean having been caught in a sustainable manner.

On this trip you will be encouraged to bring and use reusable water bottles that can be used throughout your journey. We strive to help our customers minimise their use of single-use plastic wherever they travel in the world.

The use of National Parks within our itineraries is widespread, with all park fees going directly to the local authorities responsible for maintaining and protecting the and flora and fauna within the parks.

People

We align ourselves with partners who actively work with local communities, whether this means that they are employing the local population, involved in conservation efforts within the community, or educating the local population with an aim to encourage them to look after their environment.

In Kichwa Tembo, &Beyond and its foundation work to provide food parcels for those at need in the local area, but the main focus is on implementing the local culture into your stay with local employees, and the opportunity to support local sales people and learn from their culture and provide them with a steady income. The guides are predominantly from the local community, allowing them to contribute and offer further insights.

Both Karen Residence and Zanzibar White Sands employ local people and pride themselves on supporting locals with employment opportunities. In Zanzibar, local fisherman are used to catch the fresh catch providing them with a market for their catch.

Pre-travel all of our customers are presented with what we call a ‘travel pack’. Within this travel pack our customers receive all the detail about their trip. The detail includes useful information on the destinations they are travelling to, including, but not limited to, the social and political situations within the destination. We also give guidelines on what to pack to try and minimise the amount of luggage our customers take resulting in lower fuel usage on planes and other vehicles.
