Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Xishuangbanna is a biodiversity hotspot, home to China's last remaining wild Asian elephants. Our tour is strictly designed to minimize impact on this fragile tropical ecosystem.Combating Plastic Waste: The famous night markets of Jinghong are prone to single-use plastic waste. To combat this, we provide every traveler with a reusable, eco-friendly cutlery set (including chopsticks, fork, and spoon) upon arrival. We actively encourage our guests to use this kit when sampling street food, significantly reducing plastic waste. We also provide eco-friendly mosquito repellent to avoid chemical contamination of the rainforest.
Wildlife Protection: In Wild Elephant Valley, we strictly adhere to a "Look, Don't Touch" policy. We support the elephant sanctuary's observation model rather than exploitative animal performances. During our jungle treks in Jinuo Mountain and Wangtianshu, we follow strict "Leave No Trace" principles, ensuring that we do not disturb the habitat of the rare butterflies, birds, and insects that call this rainforest home.
People
This tour is deeply rooted in the support of the diverse ethnic minorities of the Mekong region, particularly the Dai and Jinuo people.Supporting Indigenous Communities: We engage directly with the Jinuo community—China's 56th and most recently recognized ethnic group. By hiring local Jinuo guides for our rainforest treks and purchasing "rainforest meals" prepared by local families using bamboo and banana leaves, we provide a vital economic incentive for them to preserve their traditional way of life and forest knowledge.
Cultural Respect & Gifts: To show our appreciation, we present every traveler with a handmade Dai brocade or distinct ethnic handicraft at the end of the tour. These gifts are sourced directly from local village artisans, ensuring fair payment for their skills. We also brief all travelers on the cultural significance of the Water Splashing Festival and temple etiquette (such as appropriate dress codes for Theravada Buddhist sites), ensuring that our visit is one of respect and cultural exchange, not just sightseeing.
