Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTIONTo help reduce carbon emissions we include a central pick-up and drop-off in Inverness at start and end of the tour.
Food during the tour will almost always include vegetarian and vegan options as standard (dietary requirements are requested from guests prior to our tour commencing so this can be planned and catered for).
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We travel in a small group with a maximum of 7 and use only one vehicle to maintain minimal impact on wildlife, habitats and local communities.
We encourage our guests to steer clear of single-use plastics, instead bringing their own personal reusable water bottles for the tour.
Our ‘no paper’ policy means that all our tour information is sent to guests digitally.
This tour directly supports the Scottish charity Trees for Life, by planting at least one native tree in their woodland for every guest and leader who joins our tour.
Several days of the itinerary include visits to RSPB reserves, such as Marwick Head, which supports the charity directly through entrance fees, donations as well as raising awareness of the importance of protecting habitats for breeding birds. Through citizen science data collection we also support charities and organisations including the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, iNaturalist, the Shark Trust and Seaweed Spotter.

LOCAL ECONOMYWe inspire our guests to think local: during the tour we will stay in independently-owned accommodation and utilise local goods and services all of which contributes to the local economy.
All food for the tour is purchased on Orkney and we pride ourselves in researching and visiting a variety of locally-owned cafes and restaurants so you can sample a wide range of local specialities whilst supporting a number of local businesses.
There are also opportunities for guests to visit local businesses and museums to explore the history and crafts of the islands, such as Celtic-inspired jewellery and pottery, textiles and knitwear such as Orkney Tweed.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
We support local businesses and operating partners, such as the Orkney Ferries and Historic Environment Scotland who manage archaeological sites, throughout the tour. This contributes to the isles’ economy and livelihoods as well as embracing the heritage of these wild islands.
All our tours are LGTBQ+ friendly.
