What makes for a great sailing holiday? The Caribbean knows the answer.
Responsible Travel was built out of a love of solo travel, and we want to share the joy of it with you.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Our trips are designed to have a lighter footprint by traveling in a small group and using a sailing catamaran as both our transport and accommodation. Whenever conditions allow, we sail rather than relying solely on the engines. We encourage guests to bring reusable water bottles and avoid unnecessary single-use plastics. Provisions are planned carefully to reduce food waste, and we buy only what we expect the group to use during the week.
We follow responsible boating practices by using established moorings and anchorages where available and avoiding damage to sensitive seabeds, coral and marine habitats. Guests are reminded not to touch or remove coral, shells or marine life and to leave beaches and anchorages as we found them.
Water and electricity are limited resources aboard a yacht, so guests naturally become more conscious of consumption. We encourage short showers, sensible water use and switching off lights and equipment when not needed.
Because we stay aboard rather than moving between hotels, the trip also reduces the amount of daily transport required once the journey begins. Much of our exploring is done on foot, by dinghy or under sail.
People
We aim to make sure our trips benefit the local communities we visit, not just pass through them. Throughout the week we use locally owned restaurants, beach bars, shops, markets and small businesses whenever possible, helping keep more tourism income within the Abacos. We encourage guests to explore the islands respectfully, learn about local culture and traditions, and support independent businesses rather than relying only on large resorts or international chains.
Meals ashore are an important part of the experience and give guests the opportunity to meet local people, enjoy Bahamian food and contribute directly to island businesses. We also purchase provisions locally where practical.
Our trips are intentionally small-group, creating a more personal experience for guests and reducing the pressure that larger tour groups can place on small island communities.
We ask guests to be considerate visitors, respect local customs and private property, and remember that these islands are home to year-round communities, not simply holiday destinations.
