Description of Costa Rica family activity holiday

The saying ‘Good things come in small packages’ was practically created for Costa Rica.

A key highlight of any family holiday to Costa Rica is the fact that you will meet some of the friendliest people on the planet. It has frequently been ranked as one of the happiest countries in the world – from our experience, we can safely say that this is completely true! Studies have determined that locals have the highest level of life satisfaction on Earth. When we asked our friends in Costa Rica if they agreed, they simply replied, “Look around you, who wouldn’t be happy here?”

They couldn’t be more right!

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

This family activity holiday is designed to showcase the best of Costa Rica’s activities and landscapes whilst positively benefiting the local communities which we visit. We take great pride in making sure that our holidays are as responsibly run as possible, which is one of the reasons we chose our Costa Rican partner. In fact, they were the first tour operator in Costa Rica to win the Certificate of Sustainable Tourism. They put a great deal of emphasis on using hotels and suppliers with well-implemented policies regarding sustainability and the environment.

This holiday also incorporates a visit to the Caribbean Conservation Corporation where clients will learn about the plight of the endangered Sea Turtles that nest along the Caribbean coast.

We also include a day of volunteering at an Eco Centre in Arenal where guests will aid with the reforestation projects and interact with the local community. Guests will learn about the environmental work done here and will have the chance to select a native tree and take it to the local elementary school, where the tree will be planted.

People

Throughout this holiday we use smaller, family-run accommodation and local activity providers whenever possible. These establishments provide vital employment in rural areas of Costa Rica where young people may otherwise be forced into urban areas to find work. Throughout the trip, we encourage our clients to eat in local restaurants and purchase goods from local suppliers thus stimulating the economy of the areas we visit. During a trip to Arenal, our guests have the opportunity to learn about the history of the 100-year-old estate, as well as learning how to make tortillas on a traditional woodstove. Furthermore, guests will take part in a local reforestation project and spending time with a local family, where they will learn to play a traditional guitar and learn more about the local culture. We also encourage the learning of some basic Spanish to allow for a better cultural exchange.

We hope that families will return from this thrilling holiday with a true sense of having experienced the real Costa Rica.
