Gujarat culture and textile tour, Kutch

A cradle of civilisation and culture. Kutch has seen vast migration in and out of its desert and monsoon dependent grassland landscape over thousands of year. The landscape is bare but beautiful: and and out of it, the most extraordinary wealth and variety of creativity, mainly textiles, as they are a way of people bringing their culture with them from other lands. This trip takes you to villages and workshops with an expert guide from a textile trading family. You'll meet people in their homes as well as in studio outlets, and although you'll have the opportunity to buy should you wish to, you'll see that people are happy to show you their creations with no pressure to purchase. You'll ...Read more >

Central India holiday by train

This tour aims to show you some of the highlights of central India without recourse to domestic flights. The train journeys are carefully chosen so you alight at the starting point of the train and mostly end at the train's final destination, so no anxiety about missing your stop. All journeys will be in first class cabins unless you want to take a day train in a simpler style. The tour starts in Mumbai in a lovely centrally located hotel from where you will take a tour with an ethically run company that gives 80% of its profits to educational projects in slum areas. From here to the undersung city of Bhopal for the incredible tribal museum, the Ashokan era Buddhist stupa at Sanchi and ...Read more >

Kanha cycling tour, tigers & wildlife

This wonderful week long adventure includes a unique cycle route that takes you around the entire outer edge of Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh. Cycling is one of the very best ways to immerse yourself in the life and the landscape of this beautiful part of India, and we are very proud of this route - every inch of which has been mapped out on bicycles by the toughest two members of our team - the women! The cycling is moderately challenging (electric bikes may be hired for an additional fee for those who feel the peddling may be too much) but not extreme. This is a way to see the countryside and get a sense of village life in rural India, NOT an endurance test. Accommodation is ...Read more >

Learn Hindi holiday in India

This two week study-holiday is based in old-fashioned Landour. Former British army cantonment, now tasteful suburb of Mussoorie, summer retreat for north Indians and home to the renowned Landour Language School. The school is run by Mr Chitranjan Dutt and employs a small team of Hindi teachers who are experienced in tutoring foreigners. The school offers four one-to-one classes each day and makes a point of teaching the script (a uniquely logical sound system that is not as impenetrable as it looks) to make accurate pronunciation possible. Accommodation is at the very nice Rokeby Manor which is a friendly and prettily decorated Victorian house. Its restaurant serves Indian and Western food ...Read more >

This small group, women's trip, has been mapped by women, will be guided by a woman, and will include visits to two women led NGOs. We'll have two nights to settle in there with one walk in the buffer zone of Kanha National Park and one local practice cycle ride. We will then set off for three days on an adventure that includes two days' cycling, passing through two villages in their weekly markets 'haat' days, and a day spent walking with a local NGO in sublime forest. Kanha tiger safari & cycling tour, India

See rural Central India in the safe and friendly hands of a small highly professional Indian/English team, with a decade of experience taking care of guests from first contact to touch down back home. Based around beautiful Kanha National Park and the lovely Shergarh Tented Camp with its luxurious tents overlooking a pond thronging with birds and butterflies, frogs and fish, this trip aims to draw guests away from the more standard heavily jeep based, solely tiger focussed wildlife holiday. We are encouraging a safar in the true sense. A real journey exploring not just the wildlife but also the landscape and people in this lovely part of central India. Central and Western India holiday, rural life

From buzzing Mumbai to the heart of rural India. A first night night in Mumbai and then to beautiful Kanha National Park, and Katie and Jehan Bhujwala's gorgeous tented camp, overlooking a lake round which birds flock and dragonflies dance. Room sized tents have luxurious bathrooms for scrubbing off the dust after a park drive with the resident naturalist Raj, whose focus is very much on the forest as a whole and is not totally tiger-centric - though if you are lucky enough to see one of these beautiful wild creatures, you will understand their spine tingling allure. The focus here is not just on the national park but on the wonderful baiga and gond villages that dot the surrounding ...Read more >
