Just do it. ... no negatives. I was a Sole traveller, as was half the group and the hosts created a very welcoming inclusive atmosphere to help integrate everyone3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The plant-based dinners are amazing! My husband and I are both omnivores and we found the food to be wonderful. Breakfasts have vegetarian options in addition to vegan. I honestly can’t pick just one moment. From rodeling down mountains to sharing incredible food, challenging myself each day with fun activities, and connecting with such wonderful people, it was the entire experience that made the holiday unforgettable.2. Be open to trying new activities, but also listen to your body and rest when you need to—it’s your holiday. Even non-vegans will be pleasantly surprised by how satisfied your taste buds will be. Bring good hiking boots and a lighter outer layer than you think, as you warm up quickly. Most importantly, bring your excitement for new adventures and meeting new people, and be ready for lots of fun games at night.3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The holiday clearly supported both the local community and environmental conservation. MoaAlm is thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind, from recycling practices and reusing towels and cloth napkins when appropriate, to lights that automatically turn off to reduce energy use. Fresh food sourced from local farms—along with daily breakfast bread from a local bakery—supports local producers, and the use of reusable lunch boxes and thermoses minimizes waste. We also enjoyed a dinner out at a local restaurant, further highlighting the connection to the surrounding community. It was reassuring to stay somewhere that genuinely prioritizes conservation while benefiting the local area.4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
I would rate this holiday 5 out of 5 stars without hesitation. From the moment I arrived, MoaAlm Mountain Retreat felt like home, combining warmth, care, and attention to every detail with nonstop fun and meaningful moments. Learning to rodel—especially after fresh snow fell on Christmas Eve—was magical, as were the hikes through the Austrian mountains and cross-country skiing in the stunning valleys. The food was exceptional and deeply satisfying, even for non-vegans, with fresh ingredients sourced from local farms and daily bread from a local bakery. Thoughtful sustainability practices, a caring and genuinely attentive staff, and a perfect balance of adventure and rest made the experience feel both energizing and restorative. Evenings filled with games, laughter, and connection turned strangers into lifelong friends. This holiday wasn’t just a trip—it was an experience that delivered joy, connection, adventure, and a true sense of belonging. To some extent: the local community is not very much involved, the long distance between MoaAlm and other infrastructure requires a considerable amount of kilometres of driving. Nature conservation is supported by hiring a ranger from the Hohe Tauern national park who provides participants with information on flora and fauna.4. Where to start...the setting of Moaalm itself is quite something; the landscape around it, and especially the snow-shoeing near the foot of Grossglockner in the heart of the Austrian Alps!2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Don't be afraid to have a go at all the activities on offer; the team are experts in what they do - from yoga to winter pursuits and importantly, they are understanding and accommodating to all needs. They have an organic produce delivery set up; the amazing hot tub is wood-fire; most of the activities are on foot; and there is a weekly 'rodeling night' when locals and tourists can gather for a drink, enjoy an easy meal, and rodel down Moaalm's private, hilly 3km road with a headtorch!4.
