Reviews for 10 day Eastern Great Wall of China walking tour

review 1 Oct 2019

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

7 day trekking of the great wall . I visited sections of the wall that had no other tourists last day on the wall , was the first day I saw other tourists on the wall I felt that I could experience that wall as it was now , often in poor despair and challenging , but it was really worth it . Plus I spent more time trekking and exploring different sections of the wall than if I had booked with none Chinese tour company.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

it is challenging doing the 7 day trekking of the great wall, but I also customized the remainder of the my time in China but visiting Chengdu , Xian , Huangshan and Beijing . Also English and directions are not evident on the transport buses (missed my stop on the express bus from the station). English is not spoken in even the hotels ,so I was really appreciated to be supported by the different tour guides. Get a Chinese sim card. I couldn't even get my VPN to work and therefore was restricted . No access to my emails etc. I did however use maps on the phone to fine my hotel. Be respectable about Chinese culture, customs and their political system , rather than being critical/opinionated. I took plenty of currency and also used my card to buy for big purchases give yourself plenty of time to check in at the airport (took my an hour in the queue , even though I checked in online, at Beijing. Plus plenty of time at the station for the bullet trains, as they have a security checks for you ID, tickets and baggage.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I did feel my holiday benefited local people , used local guides with the tour guide on two occasions for the great wall and they received payments/donations from the company. Also used local guest houses and B&B when do the trek A lot of the areas still produced and farmed the lands that we visited. There a plenty areas of the wall that is left without interference from tourists or reconstruction, which is good to see, as it protects it from tourism.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I really recommend using a this tour company while in China, as adds so much more value and expands the enjoyment and experience
