This description is a bit misleading, he did not get attacked by a bear. On the second day (10th Sep), Brendan lead by our guide did a 4hrs hike from Xidi village to Hongcun Ancient village via Xi Hong Ancient path, about 14km. When they did the hike on the path, in one area, they heard a strange sound from the thicket near the path (around 03:30pm). And the Brendan told our guide he saw a black shadow in the thicket. The guide said it might be the wild animal, but since they did not see clearly, the guide not sure what it was. After they arrived at Hongcun village at the end of the hike, they discussed that black shadow might be wild boar, bear or other wild animal. But not sure. And the local villagers told us that they have never seen a bear in that area. Though Xi Hong Ancient path is not a tourist area, local people often cross this path to other villages, it is safe. And the scenery is very beautiful. I am sorry to give this feeling to Brendan. This guide has over 20 years’ experience as a tour guide, and has taken many groups to do this trek route. He is familiar with this route. However we will strengthen guide training in the future work and use other guides with more rich experience for this route to bring a better hiking experience for this trip.
