1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
We really enjoyed meeting local people, be it our accommodation hosts or guides for activities, they gave us a real in sight into Montenegrin culture and how every day life was for them. We could chat about economics, politics, culture and lifestyles in a really relaxed way. We also loved the e biking - I have never climbed such mountains on a bike before !2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The weather can be very different in the mountains from that by the sea, in September we needed warm clothes at night in Durmitor and it was sunbathing weather on the coast. We travelled buy hire car for our trip, Be vigilant on the roads as drivers can be very quick and overtake when you least expect it - but be relaxed, drive at your own pace and enjoy the incredible hairpins and the amazing views they offer ! It is possible to travel and eat out in Montenegro as a vegan - use HappyCow to find restaurants with previous ratings etc3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, we stayed with 3 different local families who provided personal breakfasts and conversation. We did 2 hikes, e biking and kayaking and each activity was run by an individual who had local knowledge. Sadly recycling in Montenegro is pretty non-existant which is hard to adapt to but on a positive note there is very little globalization, no sign of multinational food chains etc which was a welcome change. Alot of the food we ate was freshly prepared, for example they do not offer things like bottled ketchup but use a homemade red pepper chutney instead -delicious !4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
The whole trip was impeccably organised, Nikola was in touch by Whatsapp every day and responded rapidly when we needed to change some timings. Every host and guide was prepared and on time. We spent time in 3 different locations which gave us a really nice overview of Montenegro without excessive time driving from place to place. My daughter is vegan which could be challenging in Montenegro where meat is part of every meal, however Nikola had informed all the hosts and they all made alot of effort to cater for her finding alternative milks, spreads and vegetable options. We wanted a different cultural experience without the costs and environmental impacts of long haul flights and this holiday was the perfect solution.Holiday Reviews
