How this holiday makes a difference

When we built our project we had one goal: to find tremendous natural sites, to minimize any impact on the site favouring light amenities and accommodations while offering professional services, and to invite our customers to come and enjoy them respecting and discovering the environment.

In Versailles, we offer the possibility to stay in a beautiful forest after many visits in a huge city. This contrast is very important to us for we know that nature and forest create a real peaceful and resting atmosphere.

Environment is what we are striving for and it is present everywhere in our place. All our buildings are made of raw lumber. The Douglas heartwood we use is naturally rot-resistant and doesn’t need to be treated. We also know that it comes from local forests managed in accordance with the PEFC standard. Our rental accommodations are light and can be dismantled and moved. Built on stilts (or wheels), they respect the soil without damaging it.

Because water is a precious resource, because electrical consumption can be reduced, and because sorting is an essential civic responsibility, we encourage our costumers to think about all that’s at stake: flow restrictors are installed, water use per customer is posted on weekly basis, low-energy light bulbs are used as well as outside movement sensors and time clocks amongst other energy-saving devices and we encourage people to sort their rubbish even when on holiday. We prefer wood-heating and our cabins and facilities areas are equipped with wood-burning stoves. We use only environmentally friendly washing and cleaning products on site.

Landscape treatment is also important to us. For instance, branches are transformed into ground material and at fall, leaves are recycled onsite instead of being gathered and removed. Mixtures of specific herbaceous crops found on site when we built it were prepared by a naturalist and sown in the appropriate season in order to regenerate the land. The wood that’s already on site defines the limits of our pitches.

And when you stay with us, we want you to be able to discover nature and the region where we are located that is wider than Paris and Versailles. This is why books showcasing the region are available in the café-restaurant. We also offer at the reception local products (fruit juices, regional specialties etc). Plus, thanks to our various partnerships with local stakeholders, we offer you the opportunity to discover the region and its products and traditions.

By providing bike hire, we are encouraging visitors to make the most of the local shops and restaurants. We provide written info on local business and events at the reception.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Visiting the Palace and gardens of Versailles. The camp site staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean. (Didn't like toilet being unheated though!)

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for a sloping pitch - in the woods!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I hope so - we bought our provisions locally. We followed the recycling requests - which we think is far superior to how our local council manages it!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Absolutely excellent apart from the pitch was too sloping. That would deter us from going to that camp site again.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The looks on the children's faces as they realised were staying in a log cabin! Also the sense of achievement, climbing the Eiffel Tower.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Plan your visits to Paris carefully and remember to check for closing times, we were caught out on the evening opening times for the Louvre.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I am sure the local Boulanger and Mini Market benefited from extra customers. Lots of recycling on site.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We loved our holiday and are looking at using this accommodation again in the future.
