Description of Argentina highlights holiday, 9 days
This Argentina highlights holiday delivers both natural highs and big city thrills over the course of an unforgettable 12 day adventure. Urban explorers are well catered for with two days in Buenos Aires, where there’s a city tour of political and historical highlights as well as evening dinner and tango. The lakeside city of Bariloche, meanwhile, combines cosmopolitan pursuits and gorgeous natural beauty.
The real pleasure of this trip, however, is the chance to see some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes and wildlife. These include Punta Tombo National Reserve, home to a huge colony of Magellanic penguins, where you can literally walk among them and observe their habits; Los Glaciers National Park, where you can take a boat trip to see the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few glaciers in the world that is still advancing; and the Argentinean Lake District, where you’ll follow nature trails through mountains and native forest and explore Nahuel Huapi Lake by boat.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
We did not do a 12 day highlights holiday. Instead we contacted the holiday provider direct and with them planned a 19 day trip. See below for views on this process.
As far as memorable experiences, the list is endless. Perito Moreno glacier was amazing to see and hear - it really is blue in parts, and it was well worth paying extra to do the mini-trek. A great experience. So was horse-riding with a gaucho. Hiring a car and doing a 4 night circular tour from Salta was great. The scenery, rock formations and landscape are amazing. Some roads were challenging
but we like a bit of adventure. Wonderful Malbec red and Torrontes white wines.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Definitely contact the operator to discuss a tailor-made holiday. The areas suggested by them were spot on and they booked all flights and accommodation. Accommodation was very good and varied, from small city hotels, to vineyards. Every place had something different to offer. If you enjoy some independence and adventure with the back up of a travel agent, then the 2 areas we
hired a car were ideal. We had one for 4 days in the Lake District area, picking it up at San Martin de Los Andes and dropping it off in Bariloche. The 2nd was in Salta for 5 days. There we drove to Cachi, Molinos and Cayafate. Then back to Salta. Many of these roads were gravel and very windy but the cars provided were suitable. All well worth a stay.we had a few problems (air traffic control strike and an excursion booked on the wrong day). We had difficulty getting hold of the operator on the emergency 24 hour number. However, once we did get in contact, they did a brilliant job at rearranging things for us and covering some of the costs. Visit the Museo de Arqueologia de Alta Montana in Salta. It's fascinating. Do the Buenos Aires guided tour. It's such a huge city that this is a great way to see the most interesting bits.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes I think so. We stayed in hotels run by locals. We were advised on places to buy souvenirs from local artisans. People are very proud of their country and beautiful landscape and encourage others to look after it. Good advice on places to eat
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
An amazing country-lovely friendly people and incredible scenery, and a really good tour company. 19 days was a great length for the trip even though there is still lots more to see.
Responsible Travel
Planet
As a locally owned Argentine business, we strive to operate all of our tours in a responsible manner. We work with local tour operators, tour guides and properties to ensure that they understand the importance of protecting the environment as it is a finite resource that, if managed properly, can provide economic benefit to the local community. We follow all local environmental laws and legislation, and work with local partners that minimally impact the natural surroundings to ensure that we protect the national parks and destinations that we visit for future generations.
National Park entrance fees are paid directly to the national parks by the clients to ensure that they directly support the parks´ maintenance and preservation.
During our trekking tours with overnight camping in a national park, local or wilderness site, we aim to minimize waste by using products with minimum packaging, leaving no litter behind, keeping all water sources clean and leave the camp sites cleaner than we found them. At the core of this effort is the desire to leave no trace behind and to minimize our impact on the beautiful lands that we visit.
We are working to keep our operations green and are utilizing web/e-communication to reduce paper consumption. We have taken the decision to no longer produce 75 page printed brochures and focus on web/e-communications. We utilize low energy lightbulbs in our offices, recycle paper/glass and try to minimize our water consumption. We also reduce our plastic bottle waste by providing refillable large water coolers. Additionally, we are constantly assessing our operations to see how we may partner with and support local communities, NGOs, wilderness areas, regional and national parks that we visit.
People
As an Argentine owned travel business, we understand the importance of supporting our local partners during both the good times and the bad times. By partnering with locally owned hotels, activity providers, guides, restaurants and properties over the years, we not only ensure a high level of quality and that our clients' needs are satisfied, but we also develop long term relationships with local business owners and help them plan and prepare for the busy and slow times of the year. And this also helps our clients to better experience the local culture. We hire local guides and pay them a solid wage (which is generally higher than the local average). We also train our guides and cover the associated costs with the training program.
We prefer small, family run operations to ensure that we help sustain the community economy, and actively seek them out rather than using international chains.
We donate each month to the Argentine not-for-profit organization, “Por los Chicos” and our support benefits poor and vulnerable street children in Argentina.
In addition, we also share our ethos of cultural and environmental respect with our local partners. Be it a small hotel, mountain lodge, kayak or hiking guide/outfitter, we ensure that they work their best to incorporate environmental and culturally sensitive best practice in their operations, so as to benefit the diverse communities in which we operate.
