Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We are firmly committed to living as sustainably as we possibly can. Our home and our business are firmly integrated so that our personal commitment to sustainability is a core element of the business and we have been shortlisted for the Green Tourism GOLDSTAR awards for 2013 in the tour operator category. Our family holiday based here in the Cairngorms National Park is designed to highlight the nature which surrounds us and to encourage our guests in an appreciation of it.
Our guides are trained in "Leave No Trace" and our home base is sustainably managed with much of our food supplied by our garden; our fire kindling supplied by the garden and our property heated by a biomass boiler.
We also take on volunteers who have a commitment to organic living through the WWOOF scheme to help promote the principles and practice of living in a National Park, where the environment and community are in a delicate balance.
People
Our staff all live locally and are an integral part of the business. All staff walk or cycle to work whenever possible. This holiday also uses the services of other local businesses who are as firmly committed to the local community as we are ourselves. There are several local events throughout the year which we try to incorporate within our trips where possible. We encourage our guests to attend where possible and often provide transport if the event is in a neighbouring village.
We have made presentations at the local schools to encourage the kids to participate in the outdoors where possible though the school locally is also very good at encouraging the children to take part in outdoor activities and take an interest in the forest etc which surrounds them.
We are members of our local Destination Management Organisation, Aviemore and the Cairngorms which underpins the local business community and fosters working relationships between businesses.
