Description of Kerala backwater holiday, India

On this seven-night Kerala backwater holiday you’ll explore a side of Kerala that many other tourists miss out on, staying with three local host families in three different regions. It’s the perfect way to gain an insight into the traditional way of life and you’ll get to eat homemade Keralan food, stay in non-touristy neighbourhoods and experience the local culture first hand.

You don’t have to miss out on the top local attractions, however, and while staying with your host families there will be plenty of time for day trips. You will also get to spend a night on a traditional houseboat on the backwaters.

This trip is equally suited to singles, couples and families and can be tailored and/or extended according to your interests.

Visiting around Munnar with time to see nature and lots of bird life, made more memorable as we had a knowledgeable driver who showed us many birds. The Kathakali Dance event in Cochi gave an interesting insight into the historical parts of the area and was well worth seeing all the make up as well as the dancing. Read full review

It was all wonderful but I think the time we enjoyed most was at Vanilla County, Teekoy. We found Baby Matthew and Rani to be the most wonderful hosts and their staff were lovely. Read full review
