Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

The Impacts of this Trip
The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups on fully escorted tours, experiencing the very best of a region, a culture and a landscape, with a friendly local hand guiding the way. Our itineraries are designed to give our travellers real life experiences without compromising the part of the world we are exploring; to travel responsibly is at the heart of our commitment as a global tour operator.
Journey with us on this tour through Peru and you can be confident not only that you will see some of the country’s most iconic sites, but also that you will be on a holiday designed to cause minimal impact to the region. Working with the concept of low impact and hopefully positive impact tourism, our tour will support local businesses; direct money spent back into regional economies rather than towards bigger organisations and will tread carefully from an environmental perspective.
On this trip you’ll travel like a local, and immerse yourself in Peruvian life. You’ll head out to local restaurants to try traditional ceviche, visit a local community in the Sacred Valley to discover more about lifestyle in the area and should it be market day, hone your bartering skills with local artisans and pick up some great souvenirs. Throughout this trip we do everything we can to ensure that the financial benefits from our travels find their way to local businesses and community initiatives. We stay in smaller, often locally owned properties and tend to favour traditional, often family run restaurants when dining together; great for sampling traditional local specialities! During your visit to Lake Titicaca, we’ll stay as the guest of local families in a basic mudbrick house. Spending time with our hosts there will be a chance to put the small amount of Quechua into practise that you are sure to have picked up and it’s a memorable overnight visit in a very special place.
Our staff ‘on the ground’ are all recruited locally, from your tour leader who will accompany your group throughout, the drivers we use on the few occasions we are travelling in private vehicles (in the Scared Valley for example), to the local site guides we use at Machu Picchu. Using locals not only supports economies by creating employment in country, but it also gives you, our traveller some unique insights into Peru that you just don’t get from ‘outsiders’. We believe that local knowledge really does go a long way.

1 Reviews of Peru tour, small group
Reviewed on 23 Jan 2020 by Caroline Sawyer
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Visiting Machu Picchu, the chocolate museum, making new friends with my fellow travellers.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
I booked the Inca Trail Express from Lima. Don’t bother with the part that starts in Lima, just go for the Inca Trail Express. Your time will be much better spent going to altitude and acclimatising before the tour starts. In Lima as long as you book a hotel in the Miraflores district, get the hotel to arrange your taxi transfers and follow the guide book rules you shouldn’t have any problems. I
was the only person on the tour in Lima which felt odd and the hotel choice was very basic and unwelcoming. Of the 16 people in my group three required medical attention due to altitude sickness. Two were unable to take part or complete the quarry trek due to it, including me and it is horrible to feel that unwell on holiday. It is so dangerous and so important to give yourself a few extra days in Cusco (or elsewhere) acclimatising to the altitude beforehand. All 16 people felt some effect. Go to Lima afterwards and enjoy the beautiful city.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
We did engage with and spent a pleasant afternoon with a local community. All the hotels were locally owned, Independant. All guides were Peruvian, very knowledgable and helpful.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
A wonderful, friendly experience somewhere that I felt safe as a solo female traveller. Go to altitude early to give yourself the best chance of not getting really bad altitude sickness. This was my first experience with this operator and I was pleasantly surprised. Phone support before was helpful. The guide and all arrangements were well organised. I spent a few days solo before and after the tour and they were thoroughly enjoyable and safe too.
