Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Our walking holidays cause the least amount of carbon emissions and keeps the environmental impact to minimum. All our walking holidays in Yorkshire start from a train station or bus station to make sure public transport is very accessible. We always walk from the accommodation keeping transport to a minimum but where private transportation is needed we use local providers or public transport to get to our destination.

Our belief is that our walking holidays have a minimal impact on the environment whilst bringing immense benefits that sustainable tourism can bring to rural destinations and local economies. Our hiking holidays walk in some remote areas and small communities so we believe you will bring tourism to the areas keeping local traditions and jobs alive. We walk on waymarked routes and paths - trying to keep off of overly used paths.

Whilst on one of our guided walking holidays we will discuss local wildlife and culture. Point out any environmental initiatives that are underway or have been completed.

We actively promote the use of water flasks and not bottled water to our customers.

Our clients are informed electronically via email, electronic newsletters and our website.

People

We always stay in local family run hotels and inns. This is where we eat our evening meals and is often the only place to eat in the villages we pass through and stay in. This keeps the money local as more often than not the places we stay are the local community hub and we feel it helps keep these small rural businesses operating and the community together.

We eat in local cafes and pubs for lunches that source food locally spreading the money we bring to the area to the immediate community.

Throughout the walking holiday we will visit local craft shops and have the opportunity to purchase local products.

We will visit a local smokehouse in Blubberhouses and have the opportunity to buy local produce and smoked foods from this local traditional business.
Whilst in Pateley Bridge on Saturday there is plenty of opportunity to visit local crafts people and produce sellers whilst we are in the small town for lunch.

On the Sunday we will pass through Jervaulx Abbey where we will have our lunch in the tea rooms there. We will visit the abbey and encourage people to donate money for the upkeep of this ancient building which is privately funded.

We hope through the enjoyment of our walking holiday clients will return on their own and with friends to stay and eat and fund the local economy.
