1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

So many things, standing next to thousands-years-old rock art, visiting the livestock market, tea on the Dead Sea, seeing the cheetahs, walking through the landscape - all so wonderful.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Bring sufficient US dollars. Brand-new, crisp, unfolded, in a variety of denominations. At this time a good meal costs between 13 and 20 dollars, bottled water around 1.5, tea or coffee anywhere from 1 to 10. And do not forget tips and sundries.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It is very difficult to evaluate. The trip seemed to take into account the environment as much as it could. But it is really difficult to evaluate its impact on local people. Local people did seem happy that people are visiting Somaliland.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Awesome. We saw so much, and felt like we got a very thorough look at Somaliland. What a great place to visit!

Planet

The tour travels by road between destinations in Somaliland, with walking visits included at selected stops.

Guests receive guidance before departure and instructions from their guides when visiting archaeological sites. At Laas Geel, visitors must follow site rules, avoid touching the rock paintings and leave stones and other objects where they find them.

During the visit to the Cheetah Conservation Fund’s Geed-Deeble Centre, guests learn about the care of rescued cheetahs and follow the centre’s visitor instructions, including its no-touch policy.

We ask travellers to take their litter away, decline unnecessary disposable shopping bags and use water and electricity carefully at their accommodation

People

We arrange services with guides, drivers and providers based in Somaliland. Hotel, restaurant and activity bookings provide business to the establishments included in the itinerary.

Market visits offer opportunities to buy directly from local traders and craftspeople.

Guests receive information about local customs, appropriate clothing and photography permissions. Guides explain the cultural context of visits and help travellers interact respectfully with residents. Travellers are asked to obtain permission before photographing people.
