Description of Ancient Greece holiday, private departure

Ancient Greece is the origin of much of the modern world's art, science and ways of thinking, and this very land, where the ancient Greeks lived and created, is still accessible to us today. So if you have an interest in archaeology, a fascination with philosophy, or you're curious about this ancient civilisation, this cultural tour will be a fantastic opportunity to discover the same landscapes as seen by Homer, Sophocles and Plato.

Join us as we marvel at the masterpieces of Athens, Delphi, Mycenae and Epidaurus, and explore the spectacular ancient states of Olympia and Messina. There will time for sightseeing as we wander the cobblestone alleys of the Old Town of Nafplio, through the mountainous town of Kalavrita and the coastal town of Kyparissia. Of course, no tour of Greece would be complete without seeing the stunning local scenery. We'll visit the sandy beaches of Ai Giannakis, home to the caretta-caretta turtle, the wonderful Capsia Cave in the region of Arcadia, and take a ride on the famous Odontotos rack train across the Vouraikos gorge.

You'll be staying in traditional, small hotels with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the delicious Greek meals in local, family restaurants (where we eat every day), and taste some excellent Greek wines and handmade delicacies. The cuisine is an important part of an holiday to Greece, as any food lover will agree, and this tour also includes a lesson in olive oil, a tasting at a family winery and a Greek cookery course.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We do our best to preserve our cultural heritage. During our tour we visit Acropolis, Delphi, Ancient Olympia, Mycenae and Epidaurus. All these popular places have a great historic importance and concern the whole world. Our experienced guides, following the motto "Respect our ancient heritage!" they provide visitors practical advice about leaving ‘no traces’ on the archaeological sites they visit. This is particularly important due to over tourism in these historical sites and will allow this treasure to remain intact.
We usually collaborate with small hotels, we often choose traditional renovated mansions to stay in. During this tour, we spend two nights in Nafplio in an exquisite renovated hotel. The renovation was achieved using local materials.
Some of the locations we visit are protected areas due to the sensitive flora and fauna species. The sandy beach of Ai Giannakis, situated in the Western Peloponnese, is home to the caretta-caretta turtle. We have to be careful. Thus, before leaving we collect our rubbish and other objects that don’t belong to the location and dispose of it in the correct bins.
We suggest to our travelers to say no to plastic bags, so we present them with a beautiful fabric bag as a gift. They can use the eco bag during our tours to put their water and souvenirs in. At the end of the tour, they can take the bag home as a remembrance of the journey.
We also want to avoid the purchase of plastic bottles on the trip. We suggest to our visitors to bring their own water bottles. Whenever possible, we drink water coming from water springs or from the village taps, depending on the water safety.
Tourism has the capacity to have a great impact on the whole planet and on the environment as well. Our goal is to make this impact as positive as possible!

People

We are passionate about Greece and especially with the Peloponnese! We were born in the Peloponnese and we love local people! We want to help maximizing the benefits that controlled tourism can bring to the Peloponnesian people. Our trips help to promote the small entrepreneurial business.
The philosophy behind our trips is: we care - we share - we love!
This trip has been built with locals in mind. We want our travelers to meet and talk with our local friends, by experiencing their amazing home grown food, their excellent wine and visiting their beautiful shops.
On this trip the travelers will meet Fotini in lleia, who cooks the best chicken with roasted potatoes in the Peloponnese, they will meet Christina and her husband in their traditional winery in Arcadia, where they will taste their aromatic local wine. They will get to talk to Maria in her workshop in Argolida, where they will have the opportunity to buy her beautiful silk scarves. In Achaia they will get the chance to learn how to cook delicious Greek dishes by the local chef, George.
Working with the local communities has strengthened our relationship with many small businesses and has allowed us to provide this interactive and immersive trip in Greece. The accommodations, we stay in, are locally-owned and are distinguished for their quality and simple luxury. The restaurants, we have chosen for our meals, are locally-owned and are recommend the best restaurants of the provinces we visit.
We always advise our guests to interact with the local people, get involved in their traditional feasts, taste delicacies from small stores, buy desserts and bread from local bakeries.
We strongly believe that travelers, who are sensitive to responsible tourism, like we are, will follow our advice.
In this way, they will enjoy their journey more, and us, we will help, as much as we can, our home country.
