Carbon Reduction

Efforts to reduce the carbon footprint on this trip are integrated across several aspects. There are no internal flights on this itinerary, minimizing air travel emissions. While public transport is limited, the trip includes four hiking days, promoting human-powered transportation, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Accommodations currently do not use renewable energy, but plans to install solar panels are being considered for the future. Tour leaders actively encourage environmentally friendly practices such as reducing waste, reusing water bottles, and conserving resources like electricity and water. The trip also emphasizes eating local, seasonal produce, and vegetarian or vegan food options are available daily. While electric vehicles are not part of the trip, the focus on local suppliers and eco-conscious behaviour plays a key role in carbon reduction. Additionally, our ground agent is starting a training process with some accommodations to improve their sustainability efforts, including reducing food waste and avoiding harmful products like uncertified palm oil.
As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.

Environment and Wildlife

We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
The trip includes entry fees to the Bosco di San Francesco near Assisi, which is part of the FAI protection program. This visit contributes to nature recovery and rewilding efforts through entrance fees and using local guides. We provide customers with information about reducing their impacts on nature and use only licensed, qualified guides from the local community.

Local Economy

Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
In Umbria we stay at the delightful Relais Il Canalicchio which is locally owned. We promote lesser-known destinations, use licensed local guides, and support small suppliers of local experiences to maximize local economic opportunities. This includes visits to craft or cooperative markets and village visits. By doing so, we ensure that the benefits of tourism are felt by the local community and help sustain local traditions and economies.

We believe that an inclusive approach is essential, and that the best results occur when contributors have different opinions, experiences and backgrounds to bring to the table.
All staff, including those employed by our ground operating partners, are paid at least the minimum wage, and we offer fair wage conditions to all our suppliers. Our sustainability policy specifically commits to equal employment opportunities without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, or nationality. This trip includes a significant amount of hiking, making it unsuitable for people with limited mobility, vision, hearing, or cognitive issues. We strive to ensure our trips are inclusive and are open to understanding the characteristics that make a trip LGBTQ+ friendly.
