Peru trekking holiday, Cordillera Blanca

Description of Peru trekking holiday, Cordillera Blanca
This Peru trekking holiday offers sublime views over the Cordillera Blanca as it takes you from the barren Pacific coast through grasslands to soaring Andean peaks, via remote mountain communities, turquoise lakes and vast glaciers. In a word, Wow.
Daily walks of between five and seven hours provoke plenty of challenge, but it’s the dramatic panoramas on every side that will really take your breath away.
This journey will take you through what many consider some of the finest trekking terrain in the world.
You’ll get underway from Lima, taking an eight-hour bus journey to the town of Huaraz. Travelling in first class, it’s a long but comfortable journey and the views through the window will make time pass rapidly. Huaraz is an excellent base for hiking in this area, and you’ll warm up with a trek out to the Laguna Churup, before you embark on a multi-day expedition into the mountains, with a team of donkeys alongside to carry your supplies.
You’ll head up the stunning Santa Cruz Valley, via the Alpamayo base camp, and over steep passes before descending through the Ulta Valley towards Huaraz. Camp overnight at the feet of snowcapped Andean peaks, beside beautiful lakes and rivers, so that you awaken every morning to blissful scenery before strapping on those boots again.
Made for the adventurous hiker, this 11-day tour will also serve perfectly as a launching pad for an extension trip around the Cusco region.

On our trek we use locally produced fresh produce, buying from villages where appropriate. In preference we choose local over imported goods, and encourage the use of Andean products in all our cooking. We pack out all non-organic waste and minimize this by using products with minimum packaging, leaving no litter and keeping all water sources clean, leaving camp-sites cleaner than we find them. We bury organic waste at a suitable depth.People
When out on tour we encourage learning about Peru, the local culture of the teams we work with and the areas we pass through. Our guides hold informal talks with groups to inform about and discuss with them all aspects of local life. This helps understanding of the area and appreciation of the people who live there. We support a childrens health care project in Huaraz. Please bring with you and second hand or new warm clothes and shoes, which we will distribute to children in the Huaraz area through suitable organizations. We are also now supporting the UK registered chairty Amantani. As this charity is very much in keeping with our ethos of small scale, targetted help which is educational & sustainabale. HuchuyYachaq is the other main Peruvian charity we support by paying a for a full time teacher. A % of all our income goes to support those projects.
