Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Although the water in Italy is safe to drink for our customers, we offer the opportunity to purchase a water filter bottle, at a discounted price, that combines three different technologies to remove over 99.9% of all microbiological contaminants in water. This allows our clients to fill up from local streams and wells while on walks, as well as prevents the need for single use plastic bottles

We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy on all activity days to help maintain them for future generations. Our tour leader is trained to promote this message to our customers whilst on this trip. Lunches can be purchased from local shops and you are encouraged to bring a water bottle, Tupperware container and cutlery to avoid using a plastic bags and plastic knives and forks.

The focus of this trip is primarily walking, however there will be some free time to walk additional trails and we aim to leave minimal impact. This includes sticking to the trails to avoid upsetting the delicate balance for plants and animals, as well as not feeding wildlife as they become reliant on tourists, plus maintaining a safe and respectful distance from wildlife.

From our base at Vico Equense, we are able to use local buses and train services on most days, which keeps costs down as well as avoiding using coaches for all the holiday.

We are committed to offering low impact holidays that benefit the country and communities we visit. Given most of the time is spent exploring on foot, it is important that our staff, local partners and customers are aware of the delicate balance which exists in the places we visit and leave no trace. This tour operates during low tourist season, away from the main resorts, and sourcing Italian owned hotel, restaurants, and services.

People

We stay at a family owned hotel, which has seen us work initially with the father and now his son. Well-known and respected in the town, the hotel employs residents of the area where possible, with many of the staff working at the hotel for many years, and this ensures money ends up in the hands of the local community. Often the staff have gone to school together, and are still living the in the same town, which keeps the community strong. Their children are now growing up together as well.

Our hotel proudly uses locally sourced produce in its menu where possible, as well as include home-made dishes such as cakes and pasta, and we also eat out at local restaurants during the week. Our walking programme takes us up into the Lattari Mountains where we pass through small villages, often not visited by mass tourism, where our groups often stop at cafes and shops for refreshments. All of this is important to us so that local businesses benefit from tourism.

Any private-hire transport we need to use on this holiday is limited, but when we do we work with a locally based company with drivers from the region to help boost economic benefit in the area.
