Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Our Odyssey Centre where this amazing holiday is based is part of the GREEN KEY initiative. We have been awarded the GREEN KEY because our accommodations, our staff and our daily practices conform to the very strict guidelines outlined by GREEN KEY. All of our guest accommodations have been recently renovated and in this process have been thoughtfully designed by local Poros contractors and designers to make use of recycled materials wherever possible to make beautiful interiors for our luxury suites that reflect the local Poros style.

All guest suites have clearly displayed indications of the GREEN KEY membership with guidelines outlining what this means for guests and how their cooperation is integral to the success of the scheme. We understand fully how precious water is on this island and we make sure that our guests appreciate how important it is to conserve every drop. We encourage drinking from the tap and do not stock bottled water in rooms for guest use.. Guests are encouraged to reuse towels, shower responsibly and to use air conditioning units mindfully.

We have solar units for electricity and water heating. All waste from the rooms is responsibly collected and sorted. All rooms offer a welcome pack of personal hygiene products, organically made from Odyssey's own produce.

We have our own organic kitchen garden on the premises and other produce comes from our organic farm. Our guests are advised on how to use the local bus into town and to make use of the water taxis wherever possible. We also have a handy bike hire shop very close by and provide guests with maps to explore the island on 2 wheels.

People

Poros is a small island and we all know each other! Things get done because we understand and respect how important it is to support each others' businesses. The everyday running of this holiday would not go smoothly without the support of the fishing community, the baker, the butchers, the vineyards, the yoghurt maker and the cheesemaker.....the electrician, the plumber, the builder, the local IT expert who happens to also own the taverna down the road! All of these people are our friends and neighbours and we all rely upon each other to keep our businesses afloat and to make our guests happy. The bonus is that we have no option but to keep it local.

We have an abundance of beautiful local art and artefacts on our premises and we make it our responsibility to direct people to the producers. We encourage guests to use all the local shops and businesses and we regularly invite artists to come to Odyssey to showcase their goods. We also invite speakers to give presentations on local issues that might be of interest to our guests and also serves to educate on areas that we consider important in the interests of history, culture and environment. We have many different cultural event evenings including Greek dancing, language and music. This employs our local community and keeps the very special Greek customs alive in the minds of our visitors, as well as being a great deal of fun.
