Umbria cooking holiday, Italy
Highlights
Stunning organic farmstead | 3 days cooking classes | Traditional Umbrian cuisine | Wineries | Orvieto | Montepulciano | Pienza | Swimming poolDescription of Umbria cooking holiday, Italy
Not only is this a wonderful Italian cooking holiday, but staying on our farm gives you the chance to live just like a local. Umbria is one of the most authentic regions of Italy, and on our farm, we help you learn tips on how to prepare a real Italian meal for a few guests, using all the seasonal ingredients available in our vegetable garden or at the local market. Each day will be a full experience of all senses. Cooking is great fun, especially when doing it in a group, but it can also be quite hard work, so moments of leisure will also be guaranteed, with a few important escapes from the kitchen to local wineries, in particular! We also have some other exemplary organic farms on our doorstep to visit.
We also include outings to explore the most beautiful towns around, where you will just be amazed to find out how each of them is related to food and wine. Lunch and dinners will all be based on your efforts, and regional wines will also be included.
Transfers from and to Perugia airport may be required (extra charge applies).
Although we have set dates for this holiday, we can run it with minimum two clients, and so it is ideal for couples of small groups of friends, so just get in touch and we can customise the holiday accordingly. However, on fixed dates we do offer small group holidays and these are usually cheaper.
Please note that our holiday can, of course, be adapted to cater for vegetarians and vegans.

The Impacts of this Trip
Whatever we cannot grow we get it at the local market, we only buy regional products such as wine and beer. We only get eggs and meat from local suppliers and cheese is only bought directly from farmers. We love taking tourists to local wineries and food farm, and organizing food and wine tastings for them. We supports small productions as they may find it difficult to compete with the industrial production, so they need extra help to survive.
We always privilege these products which risk to disappear because they require too much work and high costs of production such as saffron and a few varieties of local beans.
All our guests are encouraged to attend the local market or the little shop, rather then go to the bigger supermarkets. We also invite them to go to those restaurants that share the same philosophy, and they make the effort, also because food there is better and healthier.
We always use products which we know can be found locally, if not we just change our plans, and cook something different!

This is foodie heaven. The cooking classes were fabulous came back with a lot of good ideas. This is holiday is run by a local couple on their own organic smallholding. As far as possible food is sourced from their own vegetable garden or local farmers and the vine from local vineyards. Read full reviewReviewed on 11 Feb 2015 by nicola cosgrove
