1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Being in a beautiful setting with friendly people and great hosts, and cooking a lot of interesting dishes
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Expect good food, wine and walks
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Supported conservation
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
It was such fun! The only improvement would be maybe one beach outing. Also, because this area is on a fragile septic system. We were told not to put toilet paper in the toilet. Doable, but I think there should be daily pickup of disposal bins and/or septic-compatible toilet paper.

Planet
Seasonal cooking and local ingredientsOur vegetarian cooking holidays celebrate seasonal produce and the Mediterranean tradition of preparing and sharing food. Menus change throughout the year, reflecting the availability of ingredients and encouraging creative, vegetable-led cooking.
Where practical, we source produce from local markets and suppliers, supporting Algarve growers and food producers. Our garden also provides herbs, citrus fruits and other seasonal ingredients when available.
Supporting biodiversity
Figs on the Funcho is situated beside the Funcho River, surrounded by Mediterranean countryside.
We encourage guests to appreciate the natural environment and the wildlife that shares it with us.
Our grounds include bird nesting boxes and planting intended to support pollinators and biodiversity. We also support the conservation work of Vita Nativa, an Algarve environmental association.
Responsible use of resources
Solar energy contributes to our hot water systems, and we continue to explore practical ways to reduce resource consumption and support the surrounding environment.
Our predominantly plant-based cooking programme encourages guests to discover the variety and versatility of vegetarian food.
People
Supporting the Algarve communityWe believe responsible travel should benefit the communities that welcome visitors.
Where possible, we purchase ingredients and products from local growers, markets and businesses. We also work with Algarve-based service providers and employ local residents to support the running of Figs on the Funcho.
Our cooking holidays introduce guests to regional food traditions and Portuguese wines, creating opportunities to appreciate the people and producers behind them.
Bringing people together through food
Our small-group holidays welcome solo travellers, couples and friends who share an interest in cooking, culture and meaningful travel.
Preparing and enjoying meals together creates opportunities for conversation, exchanging ideas and connecting with people from different backgrounds.
We aim to create an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere where guests feel comfortable participating, regardless of their previous cooking experience.
