Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We recognise that tourism can contribute to poor animal welfare practices when experiences are not managed responsibly. That's why we support local animal welfare organisations and only include wildlife experiences that meet our animal welfare standards. We also care for a number of rescue animals at properties owned by INTRO Travel.

Throughout your Bali adventure, you'll experience a variety of Small Change initiatives that support responsible travel practices. These include opportunities to support local conservation initiatives, take part in beach clean ups, enjoy wildlife experiences that meet our animal welfare standards, and explore the islands using a range of local transport and activities. To help reduce the use of single use plastic bottles, refill stations are available at most of our overnight accommodation and many activity locations. Travellers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, and reusable INTRO bottles are available to purchase for those who need one.

As part of our Small Change initiative, we support a range of environmental and community focused projects. In 2019, we partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to plant 10 trees for every booking received. Since late 2023, we have also worked with Path Net Zero to measure the emissions associated with our tours and with Veritree to support verified tree planting projects.

People

We ensure that every trip we run has a direct and positive impact on the local communities we visit. This means that your money is being used to support the local economy, and going direct to those who need it most. Every one of our trips includes a variety of #smallchanges that you’ll get to experience first hand.

During your time in Bali, you’ll experience authentic cultural exchanges that go far beyond traditional tourism. From learning Bahasa phrases and creating Canang Sari offerings, to exploring rural villages, rice paddies and local markets, each experience is designed to help you better understand Balinese traditions, culture and daily life.

From the moment we started visiting Lovina, a beautiful and rural area in Northern Bali, we knew we wanted to support the local community in some way. Then, as if by magic, we met Gede, who lives with his family on a small farm and coffee plantation. Fast forward to today, where all our groups visiting Lovina have the chance to visit Gede, learn about the traditional art of basket weaving, and ask questions about local life.

On August 5th 2018, a massive earthquake devastated North Lombok and much of the Gili Islands in Bali. Together with other tour operators, we collectively raised over $50,000 to help support the local community. Additionally, we personally delivered shipments of supplies to the areas that were hardest hit, including to Hifan, our Gili boat operator who, together with his family, was hugely impacted by the disaster.
