Your typical city dwelling Australian likes nothing better than an early morning run or bracing surf to kick start them into life; well that followed ...
The bike is an icon. We all remember the first one we got and that feeling when we pedalled off into the distance, free of stabilisers. And that is wh...
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Mountain biking is generally undertaken by people that love nature and being outdoors. Pedal power is great for the environment but understand making trails through wilderness areas can impact the the local flora and fauna. While the trails we use cause some disturbance when being built, they have been built in a sustainable way and are regularly maintained. The building of trails in the correct way stops further trails being built in the same region which might have a greater destructive element on the environment. We encourage the riders to think about their surroundings while riding and to stay on the tracks, not skid unnecessarily and to respect the wildlife habitat found close to the trails. While travelling in a quiet fashion through the forrest it is highly likely to see native wildlife. Biking is a great way to observe animals acting naturally without the threatening roar of engines.
We encourage our participants to carry any of their own rubbish out with them but also feel empowered to remove other rubbish they may see.
People
We are locals to the region and know the trails very well. Jeremy, one of the business owners, has been a member of the local club and local trail builder since mountain biking started in the region. We volunteer our time to the regular upkeep and maintenance of the trails. Bikes and bike equipment are supplied by a local shop who's owner was the founder of the local mountain bike club. Our lunch on day 1 is at Holgate Brewhouse. This is a family owned business which we are proud to support. It is a business that is in its own right a sought after tourism attraction and of a great benefit to the regions tourism economy.
We work with the local clubs and action groups to highlight the benefits of all cycling. The area has been recognised as a wonderful region for cycling in general and we work with the local community to elevate the status of the region within tourism and cycling networks.
