We conduct regular environmental reviews of our trips and suppliers to help identify opportunities to improve environmental practices and reduce impacts where possible.

To help reduce the use of single use plastic bottles, refill stations are available at many of our overnight accommodation and activity locations. Travellers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, and reusable INTRO branded bottles are available to purchase for those who need one.

As part of our Small Change initiative, we support a range of environmental and community focused projects. In 2019, we partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to plant 10 trees for every booking received. Since late 2023, we have also worked with Path Net Zero to measure the emissions associated with our tours and with Veritree to support verified tree planting projects.

Throughout New Zealand, many experiences take place outdoors, including hiking through national parks, exploring geothermal landscapes and kayaking on alpine lakes. We also work with local operators whose experiences align with our responsible travel standards.

We work closely with local suppliers who share our commitment to responsible travel practices. Many experiences throughout the itinerary involve hiking and walking, giving travellers the opportunity to explore New Zealand's landscapes on foot.

Making a positive difference in the destinations we visit is at the heart of what we do. Small Change is our socially conscious initiative designed to create meaningful positive impact within local communities while encouraging more responsible travel.

Maori culture is an important and celebrated part of life in New Zealand, and throughout this trip we include experiences designed to foster genuine cultural exchange while directly supporting local Maori communities. From visiting the Waitomo Glowworm Caves with local insight, to spending time at Mitai Maori Village and sharing a traditional Hangi meal, travellers gain a deeper understanding of Maori traditions, storytelling and connection to the land.

Rather than simply observing local culture, our trips are designed to help travellers better understand and respect the traditions, history and ways of life throughout New Zealand. Through genuine cultural exchange and shared experiences, we aim to ensure that travel is mutually beneficial for both our travellers and the communities they visit.

Our guides, transport providers and local teams are provided with extensive training, support and benefits that go beyond fair pay alone. Alongside developing their guiding and leadership skills through our internal training programmes, they also have opportunities to work in different destinations and expand their experience and knowledge.

Throughout the trip, group leaders also provide cultural guidance and local insight to help travellers engage respectfully and meaningfully with the communities they visit. We encourage travellers to learn about local customs, Maori culture and regional traditions in a fun and engaging way that creates more rewarding travel experiences for everyone involved.
