Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

The douro river valley is located in the north of Portugal. Here the landscapes are mountainous and green. The douro valley has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 2001.
Tourism has grown a lot in recent years. Unfortunately, in many places the human footprint is large, creating damage to the environment.
Our aim is to show our heritage through our beautiful rivers, minimizing our presence in the environment. The Kayak is our transportation, we will cross Portugal from east to west.
In each village we will stay in agricultural farms.
All our products are recyclable.
Water is more and more a precious resource. In the north of Portugal there are natural water springs, which we can use to fill our canteens.

All lunches, snacks and dinners are made with locally grown produce and others local products, served to our clients in reusable dishware and cutlery.
Nature is beautiful in its most natural state, let us guide you in this adventure.

The Douro Valley region has a unique heritage, come with us by kayak to explore this beautiful valley.

People

The Douro, more than just a river, has been since ancient times a central artery in the life of the region, being an essential transport channel for the Douro wine and people. But the Douro was once a dangerous and untamed river where only the Rabelo boats could navigate. Full of currents and shallows, it demanded great skill and experience to navigate it. Those were other times, but times have changed. Nowadays, with the construction of several dams along its course, the Douro is a completely navigable and safe river, which has allowed it to be used for tourism.

Each village has its own particular cultural, gastronomic and landscape characteristics.
These villages give us unique experiences, so we like to participate in the agricultural activities whenever possible, use the restaurants and local commerce.
We like to be part of the development of the local communities, staying in local accommodation and local suppliers, using also local restaurants.
On each expedition we try to ensure our contribution to the development of the local economy. Many of these small communities still live in a subsistence economic system.

Local people and local guides are the best sources of information to show us the local culture.
