Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONWe are committed to creating positive environmental impacts through our Responsible Travel Policy. As an overland company, we maintain extremely low carbon emissions across all our journeys. This journey covers over 4000 km, starting in Tashkent, traveling through to Nukus to learn about the environmental decisions that caused the diminishment of the Aral Sea, Samarkand, and Khiva and on to Caucasus where we continue our journey by land. We prioritize rail travel whenever possible, allowing the journey to be shared among many. For transfers, we rely on experienced local drivers who know the regions well, ensuring no harm is caused to the environment or local flora.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We collaborate with Local Partners to design journeys that minimize our environmental impact. We actively reduce plastic waste by encouraging clients to reuse drink bottles instead of buying bottled water. Our clients often stay in smaller-scale, locally owned guesthouses, supporting local communities. We also include local lunches, dinners, and winery visits to promote cultural understanding and spread economic benefits. We ensure our itineraries avoid zoos or orphanages, focusing on responsible sightseeing.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYWe have a very clear mandate to support the local community and without these Local Partners our on ground experiences wouldn’t be the same. We have been operating journeys throughout Asia for over 60 years and strive to build on our long established reputation for having the utmost respect for the places and communities that we visit.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
We contract the services of Local Guides and through our Local Partners. We use Otabek, a trusted Local Guide from Samarkand for many of our tours. Otabek loves showing our travellers the lifestyle in Samarkand. He wants all travellers to leave Uzbekistan loving it as much as he does.
In addition, we partner with local families, which we find not only enriches the overall experience but allows us to understand local traditions and create sound relationships between clients and locals.
We visit local markets where possible again helping to serve as an authentic and cultural experience and one, which maintains a closer bond between client and local. We always encourage our group to buy locally and encourage local trade and artistry.
