Holiday information

Small group food tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Our focus on these trips is exploring our destination through regional specialities, eating where the locals eat, learning to cook traditional dishes and refreshing your palate with the local tipple! Our usual grass roots style of travel is still very much in evidence and you'll still get to explore a region's highlights as well as more out of the way places under the guidance of your group leader, but there will be a lot of focus on the unique flavours of the region you are visiting.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We travel in a small group on this tour, so our overall environmental impact is smaller as we pass through the country. This also means we can move around in a smaller private vehicle, using less fuel. In addition to this, we use public transport wherever possible. Food is central to this tour, and as the group are experiencing local cuisine, the food miles on this tour are low, with much of the food being grown locally. We work with local suppliers, particularly hotels to encourage sustainable practices, such as reducing the use of single-use plastic and paper.

People

We believe immersing yourself in the local community is the best way to see a country and support the local people who live there. This trip is centralised around the food traditions of these countries, and we ensure it is the people in the community who run the cooking classes and demonstrations, and host the dinners and guesthouses included in this tour. We visit a local family in Telavi to learn about local life and make 'mtsvadi', a famous Georgian barbecue dish, and learn the ritual behind its preparation. We Stay overnight in a locally run guesthouse in Gudauri, sitting down to a traditional meal with the family who run it. We have a coffee stop at NURIK, a centre for community and tourism development founded by the Armenian Young Women's Association. We use locally owned accommodation and transport, and our amazing local tour leaders show you around their home country. All of the above make for a truly authentic tour and keep your money in the local economy through supporting these small business.
