Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

We seek to provide people with slow adventure travel itineraries consisting of walking, kayaking, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, and more. Kayaking is a minimal-impact activity and offered throughout the entire itinerary. Since the main other attractions of the tour are hiking, camping and whale watching, this tour is almost entirely human-powered. This not only gives a more intimate experience with the land, but it doesn't harm the sea creatures and natural environment we treasure. When we are at God’s Pocket we have vegetarian and vegan options available for travelers with a variety of dietary needs. From the minute you inquire about one of our tours we discuss what your dietary needs are and do our absolute best to ensure you are well fed, energized, and satiated throughout your adventure travels with us. Dietary restrictions are always communicated from our office staff to our guides on the ground to ensure our guests are well taken care of.
The accommodations on this trip consist of nights spent at God’s Pocket Resort. God’s Pocket is a family owned and operated completely off grid lodge located 10 nautical miles from the Northernmost point of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We take a water taxi to and from the resort, and spend the days in between doing human powered activities such as sea kayaking and hiking.
God’s Pocket Resort has its own small library of books about natural history and the incredible marine wildlife that lives below the surface of the water we paddle on. There is ample time for guests to read, observe, and ask questions to guides and staff to learn about the marine biodiversity and provincial parks history.
This tour includes a stop at the famous Browning Wall that is visible at low tide. The Browning Wall is home to the largest variety of marine invertebrates in the world. It is a fascinating destination that our guides provide natural interpretation and explanation of upon our arrival. We marvel at the Browning Wall from the sea of our kayak in an effort to sustainably and safely observe the incredible marine life without harming it.
People
In our pre-trip materials we provide a blog with a list of things to do in Port Hardy that includes a list of local retailers and restaurants for our guests to try and patronize at the beginning and end of their tours.By staying at God’s Pocket, we are also supporting the family owned and operated off grid accommodations. This allows our guests creature comforts of home without us needing to further impact Hurst Island or take up more natural resources. God’s Pocket serves as a wonderful lodge, but also a space of education on history, wildlife, flora and fauna.
This tour is able to accommodate people with physical limitations, disabilities and medical conditions; please speak with our team ahead of time if you think you will require any additional assistance while on the trip.
This group tour is LGBTQ+ friendly. Everyone is welcome on this adventure regardless of identity.
All of our operating staff and guides get paid at least minimum wage.
