Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION
Our 4-day trekking tour from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes, through the Peruvian Andes and the magnificent site of Machu Picchu, offers plenty of opportunities for minimal-carbon travel. We promote walking as the main mode of transport for the majority of the trip, significantly reducing CO2 emissions. Four days of human-powered transport, through some of the most breathtaking landscapes of Peru, provides not only a physically rewarding experience, but also one that is environmentally friendly. Additionally, we utilize local shared transport for the longer distances, specifically train travel from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, instead of resorting to carbon-intensive air travel options.

Throughout the tour, our guests stay in locally owned camps and hotels, contributing to regional economies whilst also eliminating the carbon emissions associated with large hotel chains. The guest's diet will consist of locally sourced and seasonal foods, reducing the carbon footprint associated with importing foodstuff.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Our company understands the dire need to protect and preserve global biodiversity. This trek does more than just pass through some of Peru's most cherished natural landscapes; it also supports their preservation. For example, the tour includes entry fees to Parks or Protected Areas which are used to maintain these areas.

We advocate for responsible tourism practices, such as careful waste disposal and noise reduction during our treks to minimize disruption to wildlife inhabitants. Furthermore, we avoid wild animals exploitation; instead encourage responsible viewing of animals in their natural habitats. We uphold this commitment through our pledge with World Animal Protection, ensuring high standards of animal conservation and welfare throughout all the activities we offer.

LOCAL ECONOMY
During our treks through the stunning Peruvian Andes, we prioritize the use of locally owned accommodations and eateries, thereby supporting regional industries and economies. By employing local people as trek guides, we contribute directly to the development of their communities, ensuring that economic benefits stay within the area. Our tours also include visits to local markets and cooperatives, allowing travelers to purchase authentic local crafts and products. This approach not only enriches the travel experience but also bolsters the local economy by encouraging the consumption of local goods and services.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY, AND DIVERSITY
Our company is deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and diversity across all operations. A significant portion of our workforce, including trek guides and support staff, is recruited locally in Peru. We invest in their ongoing training and development to ensure a workforce that is both diverse and highly skilled. Additionally, our tours are proudly LGBTQ+ friendly, aiming to create a welcoming and respectful environment for all travelers. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to explore the breathtaking scenery of the Peruvian Andes and the historical wonder of Machu Picchu, regardless of their background.
