Description of Hwange safari in Zimbabwe, tailor made
This trip is available from the 1st of April to the 31st of December and offers a six-night safari adventure in Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park, starting with three nights at Deteema Springs, followed by three nights at Verney's Camp.
Everything we do is completely tailor-made so should you like to amend this trip at all, perhaps by adding on a few days to explore Victoria Falls or further exploration of Zimbabwe just let us know.
Both camps provide a luxurious and immersive experience in the heart of one of Africa's premier wildlife destinations. The journey begins at Deteema Springs, located in the northern part of the park, where guests can enjoy a traditional safari experience with comfortable tented accommodations overlooking a natural waterhole. This area is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including large herds of elephants, lions, buffalo, and numerous bird species. Activities include morning and evening game drives, guided walking safaris, and bird watching, all designed to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities and provide intimate encounters with nature.
After exploring Deteema Springs, the adventure continues at Verney's Camp, situated in a private concession in the southeastern part of Hwange National Park. Verney's Camp offers luxurious tents that blend seamlessly into the environment, providing exclusive access to diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes. Guests can partake in game drives within the private concession, experience the bush on foot through walking safaris, and engage with local communities through cultural visits. The camp also offers stargazing sessions under the clear African skies. At both camps in the itinerary and Hwange National Park is general is a good destination to choose for activity options that do not involve vehicles, for example walking safaris are possible in both Hwange National Park from both Deteema Springs and Verney's Camp.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Both of the safari camps included in this itinerary are of a lightweight semi-permanent that creates very little environmental impact and if they were removed the site would re-wild in a very short space of time. In order to manage the outputs from the camps the camps also have bio-plants which handle the waste from the kitchen.
Both Deteema Springs and Verney's Camp are located in crucial national parks and by visiting these camps you are contributing to the continued maintenance and value of these parks as havens for wildlife.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYThe operator behind both camps in this itinerary are committed to the youth development in local communities. In order to support this they run a number of different initiatives. For example they provide invaluable work experience to promising young local mens and women in their camps. They also have a policy to employ two university graduate students to equip them with the necessary experience to become lodge managers. They also fill two intern positions each and ensure that 10% of their permanent staff are women under the age of 25.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
The operator that runs both Deteema Springs and Verney's Camp is closely involved in the local community for example it helps to fund Hwange Main Camp Primary School, providing more opportunities and better education for local children. They help the school by providing teacher support to educators who are not on the government payroll in addition to building facilities, providing textbooks and more.
