Travel guides
Portugal is the wild west of Europe, and brilliantly accessible on two feet.
Walking offers an ever-changing landscape of emerald meadows, jewel-coloured lakes, wildflower blooms and volcanic peaks.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIONS ON THE ISLANDThe Azores destination holds a recognized sustainability certification from Green Destinations in the Global Sustainable Tourism Review, reflecting regional environmental management initiatives. By offering hiking tours in São Miguel, we focus on active travel that lets you explore on foot. Walking allows visitors to explore the island's natural landscapes with zero direct tailpipe emissions during hiking stages.
RESOURCE CONSERVATION
Water conservation is essential in island environments, where treatment and wastewater management require energy. To address these challenges, we ask our guests and guides to adopt responsible water management guidelines along the trail. This includes washing dishes in a basin rather than leaving the tap running, disposing of wastewater at least 30 meters away from natural water sources, using low-impact soap away from lakes or rivers, and preventing oily or food-contaminated water from entering waterways. We also encourage using refillable water bottles to minimize single-use plastic waste in remote environments.
PROTECTION OF LOCAL FLORA AND FAUNA
We emphasize the importance of respecting local ecosystems along our routes. Travelers are asked to refrain from feeding wildlife, as non-native foods can harm animal health and alter natural behaviors. Guests should avoid disturbing animals for photographs or handling wildlife, and leave all flowers, plants, and geological features untouched in their natural environment.

SUPPORT FOR LOCAL ECONOMIESWe focus on supporting local economies and managing the operational impact of our activities across the Azores. By collaborating with resident guides, we foster respectful engagement with regional traditions and local culture.
Our itineraries incorporate visits to towns, regional museums, family-run restaurants, and artisan workshops. Our guides actively connect guests with local businesses and craftspeople, encouraging direct support for the regional economy throughout the journey.
PARTNERSHIPS AND REGIONAL IMPACT
We prioritize direct bookings with locally owned accommodations, connecting travelers with authentic Azorean hospitality.
Recognizing the local infrastructure pressure caused by mass tourism, we operate exclusively with small groups. This approach manages visitor density in sensitive areas, directs tourism spend straight into host communities, and encourages respectful, reciprocal interactions between travelers and local residents.
