CARBON REDUCTION

Our Super Active – Tara & Durmitor tour emphasizes low-carbon travel through multiple human-powered activities, including hiking, e-biking, and packrafting for 4–5 days. This reduces reliance on fossil fuel-based transport and encourages guests to actively engage with the environment. Shared local minibuses are used for transfers between activity sites, reducing per-person CO2 emissions, and electric vehicles are deployed for short transfers where possible. Meals are locally sourced and seasonal, with vegetarian and vegan options available daily, lowering the carbon footprint associated with food production. Guests are briefed on reducing carbon impacts through careful packing, low-impact travel choices, and participation in human-powered activities. By combining sustainable transport choices, energy-conscious accommodation, and low-impact activities, the tour ensures a holiday experience that actively reduces operational carbon emissions while connecting participants with Montenegro’s natural landscapes in an environmentally responsible way.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

The tour takes place entirely within Durmitor National Park and the Tara River Canyon, both UNESCO-protected areas, supporting biodiversity conservation through mandatory park fees and guided activities. All accommodations follow eco-friendly practices, including energy efficiency, water conservation, responsible waste management, recycling, and minimization of single-use plastics. Our experienced local guides provide educational briefings on local flora and fauna, wildlife protection, and Leave No Trace principles, enabling participants to engage with nature responsibly. The tour supports conservation indirectly by employing licensed local guides and contributing to park management through fees. By promoting nature-positive engagement and sustainable practices, the holiday helps preserve Montenegro’s biodiversity while creating meaningful learning experiences for participants. Guests leave the area with a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and practical ways to minimize their ecological impact.

LOCAL ECONOMY

All accommodations used on this tour are small, locally owned hotels and guesthouses, ensuring that tourism revenue remains within the community. Activities are led by certified local guides, and excursions include visits to villages, craft cooperatives, and local markets, maximizing opportunities for economic benefit to artisans and service providers. Meals are prepared with locally sourced ingredients, supporting regional farmers and producers. By prioritizing local ownership and suppliers, the tour strengthens Montenegro’s rural economy and provides participants with authentic cultural experiences while keeping tourism benefits within the community.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Over 90% of guides, drivers, and operational staff are Montenegrin, with many drawn directly from rural communities near the parks. All staff are paid at least the national minimum wage, and special efforts are made to provide income-generating opportunities for women and youth. The tour is LGBTQ+ friendly and, while physically active, variations in some activities accommodate participants of different fitness levels. Recruitment emphasizes equal opportunity without discrimination based on gender, race, nationality, or sexual orientation. Staff training ensures that all guests experience a welcoming and inclusive environment, promoting diversity and fairness while empowering the local workforce.
