Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Our tailormade trips are designed to benefit the places we visit and connect guests with local communities and nature. We carefully design our trips to ensure efficient logistics and explore areas responsibly and meaningfully. To ensure we can do this, we work with partners on the ground who share our same values and are committed to promoting sustainable development, conserving biodiversity and strengthening fair income distribution through responsible tourism. On this itinerary, guests receive an “Eco Travel Kit” on arrival, containing: sustainable cotton tote bag (Eco bag), aluminium straw kit (long and short for cocktails!), fabric pouch to store the straws and a 750ml water bottle.
In the Pantanal, the lodge we have recommended is set within a private natural reserve and offers an immersive wildlife experience with conservation at its core. The lodge actively protects vital wetland habitat, supports biodiversity monitoring, and operates using responsible water, energy and waste practices. Locally rooted guides share deep knowledge of the Pantaneiro way of life, while low-impact activities such as river safaris and guided walks help ensure tourism supports the long-term protection of this extraordinary ecosystem.
At Iguazu Falls, guests explore both sides of the falls with local guides and on foot. Entrance fees are included and we have chosen a locally managed mid-range property with easy access to Iguazu falls. The following day guests stay one night at a luxury lodge within the national park on the Brazilian side which boasts strong environmental credentials. Certified for environmental management (ISO 14001), powered by renewable energy and actively supporting wildlife conservation projects and local ecological education.
In Rio, accommodation is perfectly located on Copacabana beach so guests can easily explore on foot or by bike. Our local guides, show guests the best of the city responsibly and meaningfully and offering authentic insights into Rio’s culture, communities and natural surroundings while supporting local businesses and experiences.
People
Accommodation chosen supports the local economy by employing local staff and sourcing services locally. Avoiding national chains ensures we can help support livelihoods in the wider community and money stays within the areas visited. We only use local guides in every area we work in, most having grown up in that region so that guests can get an authentic and real experience and ensure the local region is supported. We are proud to partner with an operator which is lead by two “Women in leadership”. They started the company 22 years ago and have grown their business with conscious practices and an ethos of giving opportunities where they see potential. Their team range from remote workers in Manaus with families, to interns at university looking for their first step in their careers in the travel industry. They believe in equal opportunities both for those directly employed by them and the guides and all of the businesses they support. Brazil naturally is a melting pot of cultures, colours, races and is wonderfully diverse. This is reflected in that everywhere you go, your guide will have a different story, social status, ethic background and upbringing, but all share the same passion for sharing their experiences and views with you.
